“...where the hell is everyone?” so much for a family vacation. after all the prodding and arguing about how he never takes time off work to spend with them - an admittedly true complaint, but still - he’d finally agreed, only to come out to a nearly empty backyard. the only other person actually enjoying the nice weather, instead of being stuck inside sleeping, or off doing god know’s what, was his sister’s best friend. she’d been around basically forever, but the two hadn’t ever exchanged that many words to each other - let alone be stuck by themselves like this. still... going back inside just to avoid a little awkwardness seemed pretty rude. instead, he decided to suck it up, seating himself beside her at the edge of the pool, placing the chilled six pack he’d carried out in between them. “want a beer? i can’t finish them off all by myself.” well... he probably could, but being the only drunk one in the house didn’t sound like much fun.
