As someone underneath the trans umbrella, I should start implementing more trans characters in my fanfics. Anyways, here is a silly list I put together for the silm characters so I can do that. Feel free to disagree with me, I made this for fun.

Silmarillion characters who, in my opinion, could be transfemme:

Caranthir. Objectively just very funny and angsty if this one is female after Feanor dies, completely ruining the Feanor's sons thing. This family needs more women in it. Also lesbian Halenthir is incredible

Celeborn. Because lesbians with Galadriel

Lungorthin. Listen. We already have a Lord of Balrogs. Let's have a Lady of Balrogs too. Equality. Also, a female balrog would be hot. ...yes, that is a pun.

Celebrimbor. I think it could add some very interesting dynamics to the legacy of Feanor and Curufinwe, and Celebrimbor’s relationship with Galadriel.

Daeron. Not enough female bards in the Silmarillion. Could add a new factor to Daeron's relationship with Luthien.

Gil-Galad. Trans Gil-Galad has so many implications depending on whose daughter she is. There are so many ways you could go with this.

Silmarillion characters who, in my opinion, could be transmasc:

Celegorm. God, the angst you get from a Celegorm who looks like Miriel is cranked up by at least 100 hundred if he is afab.

Maedhros. It's funny in a simultaneously unfunny, painful, and relatable way when a character who canonically is always having the worst day also has to deal with period cramps.

Curufin. It's a similar situation to transfem Celebrimbor in that I think it adds new messy layers to Feanor's legacy and relationship with his sons.

Gil-Galad. Trans Gil-Galad has so many implications depending on whose son he is. There are so many ways you could go with this.

Silmarillion characters who, in my opinion, could be some flavour of enby, agender, bigender, genderfluid, or otherwise unspecified label.

All of the above. For the same reasons.

All the Valar and Maiar. I'm not convinced the immortal beings of the world comprehend gender.

Eru Iluvatar. I am extremely convinced the immortal all seeing being of the world does not comprehend gender.

Gil-Galad. Trans Gil-Galad has so many implications depending on whose child they are. There are so many ways you could go with this.

Also, for all of these categories: literally anyone. Anyone. There doesn't need to be some complicated lore reasons to add angst and stuff, I just like to because being trans adds angst and stuff to my daily life. The characters can just be trans.

Hello there! AUs are absolutely acceptable! All forms of Celedriel creations are welcome. Do you want to write a Titanic AU? Go for it. How about Celeborn and Galadriel in World War 2? Hell yeah. Do you want Celeborn to meet Tolkien and Galadriel argues with their creator? I'd love to read that one, actually.

Well, little Tumblr darlings, it is time to talk about how the corporate conveyor belt devours real talent. Everything you are about to read is not a review, it is an autopsy. An autopsy of how Amazon, the fandoms, and all that marketing scum shove under the rug what could have been art. So listen up.We have a case: Morfydd Clark and Jamie Campbell Bower. Amazon promises us the third season of Rings of Power, and rumor has it that Bower will play Celeborn, the Elven lord, husband to Galadriel, who is played by Clark. On paper, this is a hell of an acting matchup. In reality, it will be polished corporate junk. Why? Because a world where an algorithm decides what to watch is a world where everything alive is rooted out.In an ideal world, which does not exist, Clark is the actress from Saint Maud. She acts through an explosive zero. A frozen face, a whisper, a colossal tension that never lets up until the end of the film. That is a method. It is not labored “epicness” but pain you see in every glance. Bower is an invasive hypnotist. He does not act, he breaks into the frame. His plasticity is androgynous, dangerous, punk. In Will, he shattered his partner’s personal space so palpably that the audience felt it physically. And his music video “Run On” is a fiery mirror of Clark’s film. He recreated the self-immolation scene from Saint Maud, understanding exactly what she did. That is the level where actors read each other’s minds without a script. These two could have created a mental duel on screen, where Galadriel would finally break her defenses and show vulnerability, and Celeborn would become the key that unlocks her. On top of that, Bower possesses genetic capital, his lineage going back to Scottish kings like Kenneth MacAlpin, the Erdes baronets, and the Campbells of Cawdor. Yes, he has a thousand years of history in his blood. That is why he does not play grandeur, he radiates it with an authenticity you cannot fake.But now let us come down to earth, or rather to the hell of corporate paradise. Amazon is not a film company. It is a factory that produces content for four quadrants. They do not need psychophysical nuance, they need a PG-13 rating so grandma and grandson can watch the same thing. They want TikTok clips, not theatrical readings. So everything alive will be drained. The script will reduce Bower to a flawless poster profile. Clark will become a functional swordswoman. Their scenes together will be exchanges of functional dialogue against a backdrop of special effects. And this is not an accident, it is the system. And as always, the fandoms finish off the remains. On one side, the Gen Z crowd who fell in love with Vecna from Stranger Things. They only want to see the gothic maniac. Celeborn, to them, is a boring male character who gets in the way of their favorite ship, Galadriel and Sauron, this pseudo-romance already dubbed “Haladriel.” They will whine that he was inserted just to check a box. On the other side, the purist Tolkienites. They hate the series on principle. They will hate everything Amazon does, even if Tolkien himself descended from heaven. And between these two fires, the actors are caught. They are like meat between two slices of bread. They will be devoured without anyone even tasting them.We know what will happen, but we will still watch. In this system, genuine art is impossible. It will only break through in micro-movements, in a pause between words, in a glance, in a gesture the director missed, in an improvisation that Bower smuggled in despite the producers. But we, the audience, will cling to these contraband sparks. Because there is nothing else left. Bower and Clark could have become legends. Instead, they will become just another disappointment in an endless stream of corporate crap. But if you, dear readers, have eyes and ears, you will be able to see this potential greatness even through the shackles of PG-13. And if not, then go to Tumblr, leave likes under ship art, and wait for the next season, which will be crap again. After all, who are we to argue with the market?
