As the global community gathers for the 23rd Session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII), the side event "Harmony High" emerges as a beacon of inspiration, celebrating the resilience of Indigenous youth. This event is dedicated to unravelling the rich tapestry meticulously woven by Indigenous youth, particularly focusing on their contributions to sustainable agriculture in mountainous regions.

"Harmony High" is an ode to the relentless pursuit of disaster and climate resilience by Indigenous youth, particularly in the challenging terrain of mountainous regions. It symbolizes the passing of the torch, blending tradition and innovation harmoniously, all with the aim of sculpting a sustainable and resilient future.

The side event aims to organize Indigenous youth for a resilient future by engaging and celebrating their contributions to food security and agriculture in mountainous regions. Mountains boast beautiful landscapes, rich biodiversity, and environments teeming with flora and fauna. They are also the cradle of traditional Indigenous knowledge and wisdom, including indigenous seeds and agricultural practices. As part of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages 2022-2032, we must examine opportunities to promote, preserve and revitalize these languages. This side event aims to illustrate how Indigenous Knowledges (IK) are transmitted, their contributions to a sustainable development, and their mobilization for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, the International Decade on Indigenous Languages 2022-2032, and ultimately the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).

Item (5g): Thematic dialogues, including on the financing of Indigenous Peoples' work and participation in the context of, inter alia, development, climate, environment and biodiversity

The United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) is a high- level advisory body to the Economic and Social Council. The Forum was established on 28 July 2000 by resolution 2000/22, with the mandate to deal with indigenous issues related to economic and social development, culture, the environment, education, health and human rights.

More specifically, the Permanent Forum:

provides expert advice and recommendations on indigenous issues to the Council, as well as to programmes, funds and agencies of the United Nations, through ECOSOC;

raises awareness and promotes the integration and coordination of activities related to indigenous issues within the UN system;

prepares and disseminates information on indigenous issues;

promotes respect for and full application of the provisions of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and follow up the effectiveness of this Declaration (Art. 42 UNDRIP).
