Resource: Gender Equality, UN Training Course
UNGEI - the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative - has published a training course on gender equality. It’s currently only in English, but hopefully more languages will be added soon!
Author/Publisher: UNICEF, UNDP, UNFPA, UN Women
Course description: This course introduces a range of foundational information on gender equality and UN coherence. The objectives for this course are to strengthen gender programming knowledge and skills required for UN staff; build knowledge and skills on gender equality required for UN programme staff; identify positive entry points for strengthened programming; and gain understanding of how themes of gender equality and UN coherence mutually reinforce each other.
The UN doing it right.
CAN YOU SEE ME? Medina, age 10, Ethiopia
April 2006: Medina’s father, a nomadic pastoralist in Afar Region, initially opposed sending her to school, but a dedicated teacher convinced him to enrol her. Today, her whole family is supportive. “Only Allah knows what Medina’s future will be,” her grandmother said, “but…an education will prepare her to make the most of her life.” Now Medina wants to learn to fly airplanes. Only 11 per cent of the region’s children go to school.
