Huh, the day finally came. I found an Ultramarine I genuinely don't like 😱

Catechism of Hate, what a weird and uneven book.

I like Gav Thorpe’s writing usually. He is dry and boring, yes. But there is interesting ideas and plotpoints that you usually don't see in this kind of books that weigh up for it, and his writing is never predictable or dumb.

But man do I not like the protagonist in this story.

Cassius is a piece of work. He puts his men at risk time and time again for nothing. A worthless piece of land.

And keep in mind, I love Sicarius, he does dumb shit as well but at least his gains are great. The gambit is worth something.

I do forgive this book though because Cassius isn't the one who kills the hive tyrant. It's very refreshing to see that the protagonist doesn't get the epic end fight (since he doesn't deserve one)

Unhinged book review time!

Ok, not really a book but a flavour text to be honest.

This book does not stand on its own legs, this is very much just a little snack for someone who already loves the EC boys.

If you dont already love Eidolon and the gang of royal bitches this book will make zero sense 😂

But if you do, its pretty fun. I like Julius in this (no im not spelling his last name, fuck you 😂) and im usually not a fan of him.

And also, Who the actual fuck is Cyrus? He is cool as fuck. Is that someone who shows up anywhere else or did they just need a Lucius and couldn't use Lucius?

I would give this book 8/10 Dramatic boys. I kind of wished it was longer, but as short stories from GW it actually was on the longer side with 46pages.

Just give Eidolon a book series already!

There will be no unhinged review for “Legion”.

I can't with this book. This is easily the worst one so far. I made it three chapters but I can't. This book makes me want to quit the hobby.

On to “battle of the abyss”. I have heard that it sucks so I bet I will love this one 😂

Descent of Angels, third take. This time I actually finished it.

I stand by my first take. Easily the most entertaining out of the 6 HH books ive read so far. It didn't make me want to kill myself out of boredom (well maybe about 10% of the book I did).

I wish I could say I enjoyed all of it, but that would be a lie. Kind of weak part 4. But right by the ending it was kind of nice again. I wish it would have kept that wondrous adventure tone the whole way through but alas we had to cut to very barebones and predictable human/imperial politics.

in comparison how the 40k Ultramarine books (excluding Ventris books they lacks this too) handle imperial politics, this was very black and white, good imperium/bad compliance planet. It felt lazy and lacked nuance. Which is wild since they gave the first “bad guy” in the story a lot of nuance and you had a feeling there was more to his story than was first let on by the Lion and Luther. It was as if the compliance part was written by another author completely.

Im gonna stand by my conspiracy theory that this wasnt ment to be a Horus heresy book when they started writing it, and that they just mushed it in there with some added parts.

This book juat reaffimed my “why the hell dont they tell more stories about neophytes learning to become space marines, that shit is dope as fuck”-sentiment.

But also. Im not gonna lie, the Lion is way more fun then I expected him to be. He is one shady bitch and I like that. 😅

And for all their secrets, man are the Dark Angels a bunch of gossip girls 😂

Ps. Im prepared to be told I'm wrong about this book since I haven't heard a single person say anything good at all about it. Even one of my DA friends thinks it kind of shit.

(and if the recent polls are anything to go by, I'm a contrarian by nature who always picks the least popular option for some fuckińg reason. Do you guys have any idea what I would give to be boring like the rest of you? Imagine just liking popular things, life would be so fucking good.)

Unhinged book review - Fulgrim

So I finally finished the book after 2 months.

I liked some of the characters despite the book trying very very hard for me not to.

I hate every gratuitous description of boobs (and I like boobs)

Unhinged book review - The Tyrant’s Champion.

I read this book a couple of days ago, debating with myself what I thought about it.

This has to be the first time I felt “why is it so short?” about a 40k book. It could really had benefitted from another third added to it.

It starts out great, all the characters are compelling and you understand theit motivation and the descriptions of the surronding is fantastic. I love the dirty chaos feel.

The setup is excellent as well, its about CSM duking it out on each other in a crazy chaos hinder course, whats not to love about that?

And to be fair, we all knew it was gonna end badly from page one, lets not lie, but it ends so unsatisfactory.

The book was great up until the last few pages, why they end it like that? I need atleast another 20pages of Vorenius going batshit. If it had that it would have been a great fucking book. I would be adding it to a 40k recommended reading list. Now its just ok.

(Also, the more I read about Huron Blackheart, the more I want to throw him out the fucking window. Man this guy sucks. Why does he have so many simps?)

Unhinged Horse Heresy Review III - Galaxy in flames

Ok, so I've binged three books in three days about mostly the same characters and the events are starting to blur and I have no idea what happened in what book.

Most importantly: was it any good?

The answer is complicated, it wasn't bad. I might have enjoyed it more if I didn't know so much about the events contained in it. I play 40k and I know which characters still live.

I wished I had something unhinged to say but I don't.

I'm usually a big fan of bolter-porn but even that was so middle of the road here, even Lucius was boring and that is a crime in itself.

The only thing I really liked was Qruze showing he had balls.

The next book better be more interesting or I will struggle to finish this series.
