Yes, it was awful.
From middle school to high school (age 11-14). It was entitled Traverse of the Suns. Facepalm.
An excerpt from the Prologue:
Quite unexpectedly, the crystalline waters began to swirl noiselessly, until a vortex formed in the very center. A small figurine rose from its depths and stopped, glittering, atop a small tidal wave. The figurine depicted a unicorn-pegasus, bearing both wings and horn on the body of a horse. It was beautifully carved and made of the finest crystal.
Three things:
Small tidal wave? WTF is small about a tidal wave?
It has wings AND a horn? No way! I so did not get that from it being called a 'unicorn-pegasus.'
The finest crystal, huh? Yeah, dream big.
