This is not Satire
Oh also, re: the flu shot,
If you’re uninsured, Costco is the cheapest place I’ve found for the cash pay price flu shot. ($21.99) (My local pharmacy was over 40, CVS quoted over 60.)
And Costco doesn’t like to broadcast it, but you do not need a membership to use their pharmacy. Not for meds or for vaccines
How are they gonna charge me for 3 separate visits when I got it all done in one sitting?!?
I was getting my blood drawn for my HRT appointment and one charge for that
They mentioned I needed to get vaccinated again for this seasons Covid and flu so I stupidly agreed
$257 “OFFICE/OUTPATIENT VISIT, EST…
$17 ROUTINE VENIPUNCTURE
$125 SARSCOV2 1ST DOSE COVID19 VACCINE ADMIN
$453 MODERNA COVID 19 SARSCOV2 VACCINE 50 MCG/0.5 ML IM USE
$257 OFFICE OUTPATIENT VISIT, EST…
$58 IMMUNIZATION ADMIN
$62 FLU VACCINE NO PRESERV 3 & GT
$40 ROUTINE VENUPUNCTURE
Y’all ToT
For clarification I’ve gotten vaxxed for Covid before, it’s just the first time at this facility
The blood was drawn and the shots were immediately given. It was one visit.
I knew there would be a charge to get my vaccines, but I didn’t know it would cost me more than what I paid for my damn car
Cheese and crust, for St. Luigi’s sake why does it cost this flippin’ much??? >~<
If I, for even a moment, knew they were gonna rip me a new asshole with the cost I would have said no.
Not included is the price I paid for HRT and the bloodwork because I’ve paid out of pocket for that before and was expecting that.
Trying to get Medicaid is an exercise in frustration and I wish everyone who voted to gut it would get stomach ulcers
Recently, I lost my job. This means I'm now on unemployment and applying for Medicaid. How fortunate that I live in a country with a social safety net! 🙄🙄🙄 So... the first issue is that of course the form is confusing. That's okay, we'll just call the Department of Health and Safety with questions!
Every single time I have ever called, there have been more than TWENTY people waiting for a call. The first time I called, there were NINETY-TWO. I indicated that I wanted to be called back... and never received a call. I filled the form out, I waited the maximum waiting time of 45 days, and I received a letter saying I had STD coverage, and to contact the Marketplace to supplement. So I contacted the Marketplace. They told me I qualified for Medicaid. So I applied for Medicaid through the Marketplace, waited another significant period of time, and I received a letter saying that since I had STD coverage, I already had Medicaid, and my request would be closed. And between every step, I attempted to call DHS. It was fifty/fifty whether or not they would call me back. They were never helpful. Also for more than half the time I was applying, the state Medicaid website was non-functioning. You couldn't view letters on it (which were sent digitally by default), you couldn't upload documents on it, you couldn't view your benefits. Finally, FINALLY I reached a person, who informed me that even though the federal website said that I was well within the annual income for coverage, the state determined it by month... and my uninsurance put me $30 a month too high to qualify. So now the state won't give me Medicaid but the federal government won't let me buy health care, because the state is supposed to be giving me Medicaid. I have a chronic condition which requires medication weekly and have been without health insurance for nearly three months.
I know I'm not unique. This is how the system is built. $30 a month too high to qualify is very obviously deliberate. If you qualify for one social safety net, you are barred from the others. I'm happy for my uninsurance. I can't afford not to have it. I wouldn't be able to afford rent otherwise. But in the meantime, I could get so sick from lack of treatment that I become disabled and unable to work. Is this how the system is supposed to work? I guess so.
Louisiana government forbids public health officials from doing public health.
State officials have forbidden the public health department from even mentioning vaccines. This is anti public health because it’s well understood that vaccines as public health requires uptake. That’s always been the case. That’s why we’ve had vaccine campaigns that have resulted in the elimination of infectious diseases.
NPR - Louisiana forbids public health workers from promoting COVID, flu and mpox shots December 20, 20245:00 AM ET Heard on Morning Edition From WWNO By Rosemary Westwood WWNO: “They can’t encourage people to get them or even advertise that they have them in stock.” NPR: “Ah, well what if people directly ask the department of health for advice about vaccines?” WWNO: “Well people I spoke with said they were told they should say something along the lines of talk to your doctor.”
They’re telling public health officials to tell people to “talk to a doctor” except the doctors are taking their cues from public health, and in many cases not even mentioning vaccines anymore.
Reddit r/public health - lisa725 2d ago Tuesday, December 3, 2024 at 10:36:14 PM EST Honestly I had no idea there was one. Is it like the Flu shot now? My doctor didn't say anything about it at my annual. She asked about the flu shot. That's it. I have gotten the shot 4 times and I would get it again. Reply grulepper 2d ago. It's a yearly like the flu shot, odd your doc didn't bring it up. Reply Key-Wallaby-9276 22h ago My doc nor my kids doc did either Reply the-names-are-gone 16h ago Yeah it is odd that the medical professional with a decade of schooling and however many years of real world experience didn't see the need to ask
📍 Keep up the demand for vaccination.
Stay up to date with all your vaccinations, and start writing to elected representatives at all levels to tell them your interest in vaccines now and in the future.
✏️ My letter to reps:
I want vaccines. I want research on effective vaccines funded, I want covid vaccines, I want vaccines covered by all insurance, and I want free vaccination available to the uninsured.
Please feel free to copy or repurpose the contents of my letter for your own letters to reps.
