Trip With Jesus Union Underground - 2000
Feedback giving way to heavy guitars from the early 2000s. The distinct sound that dominated the airwaves in this era. Just an avalanche of swagger dressed in the existential crisis of having to find your place in this world. Apathy being the name of the game and rampant drug use being the cure. And here's a band singing I will get so high that I trip with Jesus. Just a mood of an entire movement that I slip into when I find myself taking life too seriously. Just watch me fly, I’m Superman.
Trip with Jesus is not even two middle fingers to the world. It’s a resignation to even participating in the world. Apathy and a bitter me. But fuck if it doesn’t rock. Just louder than anything else and deliberate provocation of being so high that you trip with Jesus. I don’t know if I miss a simpler time where all that mattered was getting fucked up at the weekends and earning enough beer money during the week or if I am really addicted to this apathetic swagger of the early noughties.
And I love the line, It’s such a shame that it is this way, I’m a junkie and god is gay. Provocation for provocations sake. No need for it to be there at all but that dumbass teenager inside of me still gets off on this.Today I had the urge to relive a simpler time but I know nostalgia is a dangerous place to stay too long cause I know it stagnates. Stagnates the soul, stagnates the process, stagnates the journey. And worse than all of this, it stalls the engine from the path you gotta take. Today I’m deliberately stalling but fuck if it doesn’t rock.
