Hemp. Pots. Weed. Grass. Dope. Marijuana. Of all the names given, they are products of the leaves and flowers of the Cannabis plants. They have a long history of not just for treating pains or getting people intoxicated. In ancient China, all parts of the Cannabis plant were useful – the stem can be used to produce textiles, rope and paper; the roots, leaves and flowers are for medicine and intoxication; the seeds are to be made into food and oil. Fast track to now, governments around the world are moving towards legalising cannabis for medical purposes and at the same time, law enforcement are trying to stop illegal possession of recreational cannabis. In 2016, medical marijuana was legalised in the state of Victoria, Australia.

What is the difference?
Medicinal cannabis is high in CBD (cannabidiol) content which has many benefits to people who are diagnosed with epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and palliation. The CBD content will help control excruciating pain, nausea, and violent spasms and seizures without the psychoactive effect on the patient. Products are in limited amounts in Australia - medicinal cannabis products are manufactured by companies that are licenced under the Narcotic Drugs Act 1967.
Recreational cannabis, on the other hand, is high in THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). That is the content that has a psychoactive effect on the users, where they get ‘high’. Dealers can grow them in their backyards and the dry them before selling them. They can also process them and sell them as by-products of cannabis. In different states, regulations are different - in Victoria, it is illegal to possess cannabis.
Due to cannabis only been recently approved for medical use in Australia, a lot of doctors are extremely cautious about it. In Victoria, only people with severe medical conditions, including severe epilepsy, cancer, multiple sclerosis and HIV/AIDS can access to medical cannabis. Even that, it is a very long process. Both, a medical doctor and a psychologist (both based in Australia) I talked to about this issue have not personally met patients that needed medicinal cannabis. They know very little about the process of getting them through a proper channel. Because it is still very new to the medical field, the products and quantity are limited.
There are different regulations when it comes to both medicinal and recreational cannabis in the different states in Australia.
Recreational cannabis is easier to get your hands on them but it is illegal in the state of Victoria. Cannabis is listed as the first one on the list of drugs that are prohibited to possess and/or to grow on one’s property.

Retribution meeting!
Had a meeting with the team about the sound we have to do for the 10 minutes of film we’ve been given in our mixing for picture module. It’s all pretty daunting, but I’m sure we’ll be fine, now we’ve finally started doing a bit of planning.
We set some deadlines for ourselves so we are not having to rush around the deadline and have booked some studio time for specific jobs.
