Audio Drama Sunday - 24th August
@freshmeatcast — Episode 3 — Order Up: there’s a surprise new teammate, an unsurprising new death and present-day voicemails from some of the show’s apparent survivors! This was an interesting episode. You can really tell how messed up Andy is after what happened at Rosie’s, and there’s also some foreshadowing for the ending. I don’t think it’s going to end with everyone holding hands, grimly successful in their mission. It seems like any survivor of the Fresh Meat incident drifted apart, or just spiralled altogether. What a treat to hear it happen! 🥩
@theholmwoodfoundation— Episode Seven (SEASON ONE FINALE): I’ve been looking forward to this for so long, and it was all that I’de hoped for. We got a brief scene outside of the audio recorder format (a real jumpscare), a scene with Maddie and Jeremy writing on his arm in pen that made me so emotional but also very suspicious, and I was horrified when I realised it was over. Plus, all the scenes of Arthur and Jonthan Harker III were just perfect. I can’t wait to have my questions answered in the next season (like, how is Jeremy’s message to Jonathan going to affect the plot?). At least Dracula: 2004 might fill the void in October. Full review here.🩸
@jq37’s Absolutely No Adventures — S1E5-S2E4: if it helps, I’ve been multitasking listening to this with jogging and cleaning every room in the house, but yes, I’ve been listening to a lot of this podcast. My new favourite running joke is Bea’s deconstruction of fantasy tropes. I was won over as soon as she pointed out the similarities to Earth mythology, but then she brought up Danish pastries, French phrases, Shakespeare — and now I’m totally on board with her conspiracy. That, and the dawning realisation of what exactly Sig’s name is short for is making this show one of my favourite comedies. 🎂
Unit 12 — Episode 1: you’ve heard of podcasts where people investigate the supernatural, but have you listened to a show where the supernatural do the investigating? Unit 12 has a whole host of supernatural monsters living their urban-fantasy lives (or un-deaths) as police officers. And there’s a new recruit who’s seemingly, suspiciously human.
@straylungs’ Hearthbound — Episode 6: Aeaea: the song they were playing on the piano this episode was so good! And the inn itself was delightful. The idea that even in this post-apocalypse, people are gathering at clean water and building communal areas and digging up old roads so the water can reach the soil! It made me so emotional. Also, as always, the sound design was peak. 🕯️
