✰ || LOVE ISLAND is the debut mini album of SNS’ first subunit, SNS X (made up of members Piper, Soyee, and Mika), released by RBW Entertainment on June 26th, 2020. It is available both digitally and physically, and features four songs, with “ISLAND” and “LOVE ME” being its double title tracks. SNS X promoted “ISLAND” and ‘LOVE ME” from June 27th to July 24th, also holding a special stage for b-side track “ZOO”. The girls were able to bring home 5 music show wins in total over the promotional period. They held 1 fansign, appeared on a few variety shows, started to a vlog series on their youtube channel called “Mix it up!”, and were heavily active on social media.

fans were not prepared for this mini, but they definitely made up for their panic with the way they streamed the crap out of it
critics gave praise to the mini but didn’t hesitate to say that the songs had very similar sounds and blended together very easily
“LOVE ME” debuted at number 1 on korean music charts, continuing to top the charts for multiple days
“ISLAND” debuted at number 2 on korean music charts, though it fell a lot faster then “LOVE ME” did
“BEST FRIEND” debuted as number 27 on melon but peaked at number 8 after the mv was released
“ZOO” peaked at number 34 on melon
the “LOVE ME” mv got 19.7 million views in the first 24 hours
the “ISLAND” mv got 15.9 million views in the first 24 hours
the “BEST FRIEND” mv was only slowly gaining views but after an hour of so after its release, the views skyrocketed due to other fandoms finding out their idols were in the mv and helping stream it. it gained 32 million views in the first 24 hours
"LOVE ME” received 4 music show wins while “ISLAND” received only 1
they had a very successful physical sale, selling 90 thousand physical copies

the first teasers for this debut weren’t released until literally 2 days before it dropped, fans were sent into a panic
sugar drops managed to trend “#CHEMICALX” and “#LOVEMESOMESNS” the 2 days leading up to the release of the mini
sugar drops tried their hardest to support both title tracks equally but “LOVE ME” ended up clearly being a favorite among sugar drops and other fandoms
all three girls took part in the creation of the mini, but they had the most contribution in the choreography and the writing of “BEST FRIEND”
speaking of “BEST FRIEND”, the music video !
no information was ever released saying they would be dropping an mv for the bside but omg they did and it was the cutest thing ever !
so many fandoms ended up supporting sns x this era due to that mv, it was really sweet and cute :((
fans just overall really enjoyed this refreshing and summery concept
especially since after the release of “Uh-Oh” they thought they weren’t gonna get summer concept sns
talking about performances though, god were the girls overworked
not only had they just finished promotions for “Uh-Oh” less then a month before they released ‘Love Island’, they were also constantly performing and completing schedules
sugar drops were extremely concerned for the girls’ health and even begged rbw to end promotions early after a leaked video of the girls practicing prior to an outdoor show recording showed mika fainting in the middle of her rap
rbw ended up making a statement saying that the girls were perfectly healthy, mika had just forgotten to eat that morning and ended up feeling faint because of it
mika was forced to released an apology for worrying fans and confirmed that she was in fact perfectly healthy and couldn’t be more excited to be promoting
mika’s schedule was considerably the busiest and most tiring due to her replacing april’s naeun as a permanent mc on inkigayo
though her becoming an mc did allow for even more cute friendships between her and other idols to bloom
she truly is the industry’s baby :((
piper and soyee made a lot of new friends too, they were always seen giving other idols hugs and that sorts during encore stages
this though did lead to a fanwar between sugar drops and stays after soyee was seen giving all of the stray kids members hugs during their encore stage but refusing to even look at felix let alone give him a hug
this of course sparked some drama between the two fandoms as they tried to figure out what was happening between their idols
oh! this era was just followed by negativity apparently because that wasn’t the only scandal the girls got into
the dances for their title tracks were on the more casual/fun side and since there was only 3 of them, they had backup dancers
who may i add were all hot as hell lord
but the girls got really touchy feely with the boys during the choreo (think bigbang’s bae bae) and due to the outfits both the girls and their backup dancers were wearing, netizens had a lot to say about it
there was a lot of slut shaming going on and it was obvious that it affected the girls
the dancers became more playful with the girls on stage though after the buzz started so they wouldn’t feel too upset anymore
this kinda backfired though as it caused more controversy and even dating rumors
overall the era was really successful for the subunit and the girls had a lot of fun despite how exhausted they were
all of their hair was longer in length but they usually had it done up in some type of hairstyle featuring cute little headbands, hairclips, bandanas, bucket hats, etc
piper finally added some color to her hair and dyed it bright red
soyee let her hair fade out of the orange shade she had during “Uh-Oh” promotions so she was rocking a faded aubrun color
mika bleached her hair for the mv and first few weeks of promotions but later ended up dying it half light blue and half pink, bringing the birth of the cotton candy sugarplum :(
also when jaehyun dyed his hair pink and they were kinda twinning :(( that was some cute shit :((
i seriously loved the styling of this era
like the girls were always coordinating with their backup boy omg it was everything
