In theory, she knew she’d make it. She was notable, beautiful, and talented. Still, the stakes were high, she was the last hope for her group. If her Starry Girls couldn’t gain success on their next comeback after her appearance on The Unit. They were done.
Audition Song
The number pinned to Wanfei’s shirt let her know that no one was exceptional here. They were just bank slates, ready to be whatever the production wanted them to be, changing from the mold their company can already pushed them into. They were all bright eyed and ambitious, but it was the hard workers who would make it through to the end. Well, that and the ones who make good TV. Wanfei was determined to be both.
She hadn’t faired badly on the survival show she participated in last year in China, but it had a smaller audience, it had less popular contestants, and it wasn’t her last chance.
Wanfei’s company had chosen a song to emphasize her elegant nature. It wasn’t vocally challenging and had a good beat. A dance break was inserted just for her. There were no mistakes, but she knew that still held no promises. She’d seen idols do perfectly and still not get what they deserve.
They debate, very impressed by her dance and charisma, but not so much her voice. They wonder if she should really be in A if she’s not exceptional at everything, especially with such strong trainees here. She was used to it. She waited anxiously for her ranking result.
He couldn't tell how nervous he was this probably was the first time in forever that Kousuke had to perform without any of his member. There sure were times the young Japanese male was doing some kind of solo stuff on stage, but more only for showcase reasons or concerts. And in the end all of his members weren't fas away so he always did felt the support he needed. But this time, this time was so much differente to the other times. He was alone, fully alone, without someone to cover up his mistakes, without an older brother to cover up his bad dance skills.
"Kamiya-ssi!! Five minutes left.", a person suddenly appeared in the waiting room. The young Japanese was sitting in a one of those chairs and waiting for his time to go on stage. Following the person over to the stage he got a short glimpse of another contestant leaving the stage and walking down form it. A firm nod and a quick thumb up towards the other there only where like one minute left till Kousuke had to go and take his audition.
Closing his eyes while calming his breath everything went blank around him. It was one of this exciting yet pretty suffocating moments you have to go through. Trying to blend all noises around him out he open his eyes right in time and exhaled the longest since this morning. Taking all his courage Kousuke walked with a little too much confident on the stage as he suddenly stumble over his own feet. With a short 'uff' coming from him he blinked a little confused as the spotlight was banding his eyes. Deep inside himself Beyond's maknae hoped that no one saw it but with the audience 'wooing' and whispering over, he knew that he totally messed up his planned cool appearance. As he suddenly got asked from one of the mentors if he was okay, he cracked a smile and nod confidentially. "I think i made a mistake... i grabbed the wrong shoes this morning", with the little brake between his sentence one of the mentors was about to say something but with his witty mind he tried his best to turn his stumble into something funny. As he scratched the back of his head while smiling in a cute way you could hear some 'aww' and 'giggly' sounds coming from the audience.
"Good evening dear mentors and our lovely audience. 僕はたまごものきみも好きです けどきみも好き。Boku wa tamago mono kimi mo suki desu kedo kimi mo suki. I like the yolk in the egg, but i like you even more. Kamiya Kousuke, K.otic from Universal Magic Entertainment. Is my pleasure to be here and i hope you'll enjoy to listen to my version of True Love by Kim Sung Kyu sunbaenim. Thank you!" After introducing himself and dropping his funny catchphrase fans loved to hear, he bowed to the mentors and looking shortly to the stuff to give them a sign that he was ready to start his audition.
With the music turned on the lights changed as well and at the right time Kousuke started to sing to his chosen song. A song he always enjoyed himself to listen to and a song he one day somehow wants to relate too. Since he didn't meet his true love yet and there was literally zero dating while working as an idol. But this wasn't the right moment to think about and dating related stuff, no it was the moment to throw himself into the music, to open himself to the song and hitting every single tone. Knowing how to capture people with his voice and the way he act on stage it was easy for him. His vocal tone was stabil and the high notes was fitting perfectly to his honey voice. But everyone knew that Kousuke didn't had any problems with his vocal skills. They weren't perfect but they stood out and he sure knows how to use them. Drawn everyone around him into the moment as he put all the emotions he could offer into the song. There was no mistake and it was a really good performance. "Thank you.", he said with a pretty satisfied smile on his lips.
But this wasn't the end yet. Since the song itself didn't had any choreography in it, like really zero, nothing, nada. They asked him to do some freestyle dancing. For an idol who did debut seven (7) years ago it was a great vocal performance but everyone standards towards Kousuke were pretty high. It wasn't like Beyond was a group people didn't know about, they once filled a pretty big concert hall and had some number one hit singles in the charts. Feeling sweat drops slowly forming on his forehead his pulse started to rise and his heart being to race faster than before. Why did they ask him to dance, why out of all things he could have done, he asked him to dance. It was like someone pressed on the pause button of the television remoter since it felt like time wasn't passing by. And here he wasn't even able to refuse the order because he promised his member to take on his dream and he also did promise himself to dream again. Sucking in his lower lip the expression on his face became a little dark at the request and he only did respond with a simple and hard sounding. "Yes!"
Music started to play and Kousuke moved his body along the music. He really hated to dance and somehow had a fear of it. The young guy didn't even know how to move beside of the basics. He was able to copy a choreography with others together as a group but dancing alone was more like a grandpa with hip-problems suddenly did appear. He tried to fit in the speed and rhythm of the dance beat but it looked somehow more amusing than pleasuring. When the music stopped he could totally read the faces of the mentors and their feedback to his dance wasn't as nice as the feedback to his singing.
As he thanked everyone he bowed his head and shortly before leaving the stage, he waved towered the camera and the fans before he went his way through the hallway and suddenly broke down on his knees. His legs weren't able to hold him any longer and he was shaking. What an unpleasant moment it was.
