Kaala will be more powerful and fearless than Nayakan - The Hans India
Superstar Rajnikanth has chosen director Pa Ranjith’s story of Tamil-Telugu bilingual ‘Kaala Karikalan’ for a good reason. As he got an opportunity to essay a role of a slumlord who was more fearless and powerful than ‘Nayakan” in which his arch rival Kamal Haasan played the role of Varadarajan Mudaliar and bagged national award and rocked the box-office in 80’s.
Actually, director Pa Ranjith weaved a story on Thiraviyam Nadar, a powerful Mumbai don, who sent shivers down the spine of his opponents, while being a messiah for poor Tamils and protected their interests. Giving credence to the reports, Thiraviyam Nadar’s daughter Vijayalakshmi urged director Pa Ranjith to share details of the script some time ago, but director hasn’t responded, she claimed.
Nevertheless, the shooting of much-hyped film is going on at a brisk pace and Rajni is breathing life into the role of dreaded don. “It is true that Nadar is contemporary of Varadarajan Mudaliar since both belonged to the same period of time and ruled the roost in Dharavi-slum,” says a source close to the unit, who claims that Nadar migrated from Tirunelveli to Mumbai and became a messiah of sorts for Tamils and stood by them.
“He took on many Maratha dons and became a saviour of poor and downtrodden. Although, his enemies dread his name, while poor prayed for his well-being ,” he adds. Earlier, Varadarajan Mudaliar was also shown as a fearless saviour in the film 80’s cult movie `Nayakan’, on which the source adds “Nadar had an upper hand and more fearless and powerful than Mudaliar,” the source point out.
