Love is strongly encouraged (not actually commanded) ((to command something requires extra strong words)) by GOD toward your wife. It says that in the Bible. Notice: never throughout the Bible, does it require a wife to love her husband. However it does say to respect him. Check it out if you don't believe me. He even told Hosea to Love his Adulterous wife.
You need to love her even if she doesn't obey Him and respect you. Like it says, it is strongly encouraged of you towards her. And you are allowed to divorce her in adultery. But noting Hosea, should you? (Question it). You are allowed to divorce even in disrespect, but the reason she isn't encouraged to love you is because of the extreme number of men who don't love their wives. WOW, THAT'S SAD!
See GOD is showing right here that He knows most men are selfish beyond measure. The whole world would end right now if women were required to love an unselfish spouse. They are not!
This in fact proves that you can and should decide in your heart to love. Even if you haven't before. Even if you have before and lost that spark. You have the ability within to light that spark. The word in the Greek is Agape-toe. The ending makes it personal. It means the type of love you are strongly encouraged to show must be this kind of love as it's the only true love in a real marriage. Without it you didn't have a marriage. Agape is an unselfish love. ἀγαπάτω is the kind of love I've heard many (Christians) say is impossible unless it comes from GOD. I say Baloney!
GOD wouldn't have required Agape if you couldn't manifest it from within. Yes it's unselfish love. So get off your selfish butt and be unselfish. First tell her you love her. Start thinking of her before yourself. It needs to come from your heart. Get on your knees and pray that YeHoVaH teaches it to you because it's that type that's required. Dudes this is in the New Testament and it's manifested in the Old Testament. Which in my belief should have been translated Renewed Testament. Yes I know both Hebrew and Greek. Also, I'm a biblical scholar.
Another verse prior to this one verse 28 says same word different ending. Means the same
ἀγαπᾶν NIV Ephesians 2:28
In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
NIV Eph 5:33
However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
ἀγαπάτω
