[cue totally unnecessary preamble to a simple tag game] Okay, there are a lot of ways I could go with a top 5 list. I usually pare my all time list down to 6, I don't think I can really go any less than that. So I'm going to stick with current shows that I consistently dig from week to week. This is excluding shows that are out of season right now and streaming shows because they don't really have a season longer than a weekend for me (sorry OITNB, I love you so very much). Also I'm doing this in hopes that more people will watch these less popular shows that I think are really special. With that being said here we go:
1. Who is you favourite character in 2?
2. Who is your least favourite character in 1?
I don't think I have a least favorite character in Parks & Rec. Like maybe Jam? But even he works in a comedic fashion. What I'm saying is Parks & Rec's ensemble game is flawless, not a weak one in the bunch.
3. What’s your favorite episode of 4?
1 x 5 - Twilight's Last Gleaming - It's the one that got me super into the show. It juggles tension in the dual stories so well it felt like a Battlestar Galactica episode, and that is something all sci-fi series should try to achieve.
4.What is your favorite season of 5?
Season 2 - I won't spoil it for you, but man that ending.
5. What is your favourite relationship in 3?
The three-generational family relationship between Jane, Xiomara, and Alba. Admittedly it hits me in a very particular soft spot because it mirrors my own family unit growing up. But I do legitimately think it's the beating heart of this show. It's sweet, but realistic. Warm, but not sappy. It strikes a perfect balance that Gilmore Girls was so good at when it was at it's best.
6. What is your anti-relationship in 1?
Once again I like basically every relationship on this show. Why are all these hate questions targeted towards the warmest, fuzziest show on this list?
7.How long have you watched 4?
A week maybe? Just caught up and it is one of the best surprises I've experienced in recent memory.
8. How did you become interested in 3?
Good critical buzz and a hearty recommendation from one of my favorite podcasters (Linda Holmes from NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour).
9.Who is your favorite actor in 2?
Everyone in the voice cast is legitimately great, but I think the obvious choice is Dan Mintz. Tina's deadpan delivery is so spot on that even her teenage groan is hilarious and endearing. But also shout out to H. Jon Benjamin and Kristen Schaal for making me forget I watch other shows with their voice talents.
10.Which do you prefer 1,4 or 5?
Parks and Rec hands down. I love The Americans a lot (so much so that I called it my top drama of last year, tied with Hannibal). But Pawnee, Indiana is a place I never want to leave and I will miss it dearly in a couple of weeks when it concludes.
11. Which show have you seen more episodes of? 1 or 3?
Well I've seen all of the episodes of both, so since Parks has more episodes I've got to go with that one.
12.If you could be anyone from 4 who would you be?
Clarke or Raven, probably Raven though because I have zero leadership qualities.
13.How would you kill off your favourite character in 1?
I wouldn't. They're all going to die peacefully of old age and happiness.
14.Would a 2/3 crossover work?
Well technically, it wouldn't work because one's animation and the other is not. But if that wasn't an issue I think it would be neat if Jane walked into Bob's Burgers and had a meal. Anything wacky that happened there certainly wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for Jane the Virgin's hyper stylized milieu.
15.Pair two characters in 2 that would make an unlikely but strangely ok couple.
I don't know. Maybe Louise and Regular Sized Rudy? I don't know man, they're all kids so let's just not go there.
16.Overall which show has a better cast: 3 or 5?
That's not really a fair comparison, but it's got to be 5. Every single person on that show is giving an awards caliber performance. No one in Jane the Virgin is bad, it's just doing something very different and much sillier (that doesn't take anything away from Gina Rodriguez who is just damn delightful).
17.Which show has better soundtrack: 1,4 or 5?
Funny enough I don't really notice the soundtracks themselves in any of them (I rarely do in TV except in The Knick where it's obviously working towards something there). However the key to The Americans success is it's ability to build tension and the music is a big part of that, so I'll go with 5.
