i grew up in the country on a long dark gravel driveway and our house was surrounded by woods and a corn field let me tell you i was TERRIFIED idk why the fuck he did that but he thought it was hilarious

When Harry was a few months old, Sirius was babysitting for James and Lily to have a date night. Sirius had managed to acquire a good amount of wolfsbane potion for Remus earlier that day, and even found a patch of a wolf playing with a dog in muggle London that he was planning on adding to his motorcycle jacket. The house was a bit of a mess- James had offered to take care of some of Dumbledore's more delicate items while he moved house.

Sirius came across a rather ornate mirror while searching for something to distract the crying Harry. At a glance, the inscription made him wonder if he'd hit his head while narrowly avoiding baby hands latching into his hair. The words appeared structured and legible until you actually took the time to read them.

And so, as baby Harry giggled at whatever appeared before him, Sirius looked into the mirror that not even Dumbledore could say would show him only his reflection, and saw just that.
