You couldn’t explain the amount of weight off your shoulders when you finally saw Wonwoo step foot in the classroom. For someone who skips school often, he looks worn down, as if he aged a few years. His demeanor is ever so tranquil, you couldn’t bring yourself to converse with him. And so instead, you took notes and ignored Wonwoo as if you’ve gotten used to him not being around. Lies.
Engrossed in the lesson about genes and heredity, it almost surprised you and Wonwoo tapped your arm to ask a question.
“I wasn’t here the past two days,” he whispered towards you. Turning your head a bit too quickly, you realized how close he had gotten. He didn’t budge but instead continued to talk. “Do you mind lending me your notes?”
“Uh...” you started, fully aware that Wonwoo cares little to nothing about personal space. When he sensed you felt a bit uncomfortable, he inched back and intently waited for you reply. You told him you’d give it to him after class and he thanked you then immersed himself with the lesson. What was with this guy? Did he not realize the amount of pressure he puts on people when he does things like that? Did he not realize how angry you were at him for ditching you all alone in a class you can barely understand? Did he--
The loud ring of the bell announced class over and you hurried to pack your things. That was until Wonwoo grabbed your arm.
“Um, I would like my arm back,” you snorted.
He let go and apologized. “I need the notes,” he mentioned as he hovered over you. Never have you noticed how tall he was because you were always sitting in class but this guy towered over you like a sky scraper. His physique can engorge you if that was possible.
You scoffed at his request. You didn’t want to give it to him. He should have been here taking notes himself but no, he was dillydallying at who knows where while you worked hard in class. Why should you give your notes to someone who didn’t bother working as hard as you? In the end, you gave your notebook to him and he thanked you for it but that was it. He could’ve at least gotten on his knees and begged. Yet again, that would have been a bit too much.
Wonwoo was about to leave the room and you remembered your promise to yourself on interrogating the boy. You had to get to bottom of this because it is his grade on the line too. It would have been a lie if you said you cared nothing about him. It was his last year in high school and college was always looking for a reason why they shouldn’t accept you.
“Hey,” you called out. “Hey, Jeon Wonwoo.”
Turning his head slightly, just enough to meet his eyes with yours and you froze on the spot. It was no time for feelings, you had to break through him.
“What’s been happening to you lately?” you asked, “How come you’re always gone on the worst days possible? Have you been plotting this the whole time, leaving me doing projects and stealing my notes when you come back? I’m kind of sick of it. If you want someone to toy with, I’m not that person. Go play with someone else.”
It was the most expression he ever put on his face: surprised. Jeon Wonwoo was surprised. His widened and his mouth hung low. Words tried to escape his mouth but it was there was a plug preventing anything to come out. Your monologue sounded less cruel in your head. After it all, you just want to take everything back and apologize but it was already too late. You felt nauseous as the fact you scolded him that way. He couldn’t explain himself, or wouldn’t explain himself. He just apologize one last time and walked away.
