Lying, untruthfulness, mendacity – whatever you call it – is human nature writ large. It is a system we live in. It isn’t just capitalism. A state-run or communist economy just throws up different kinds of lies. But do we teach this in our schools? Is there a module for children called “Lying: How Mass Society Works”? There is not.  Some things are so ubiquitous you fail to notice them anymore. Fake news is the topic of the moment, but fake information has long underpinned our society. We are bringing up our children in a world of half-truth and then telling them to be honest. No wonder they are confused.

The Untruthful Person

Everyone knows someone like this or has known someone like this in their life at some point. We have all dealt with that one person that just cannot seem to tell the truth. There are many different type of liars though. You have the ones that tell white lies all of the time, the ones that make up stories to make themselves sound more interesting, the ones that lie to make themselves right and the ones that just blatantly lie about everything.

It always amazes me when I come across someone like this. If you have dealt with someone like this before than they are fairly easy to recognize. Anyways, years ago I used to have a friend that was a lie about everything type of liar. We were actually best friends, did everything together best friends. Upon meeting her I had no reason to think that she was a liar, so naturally I believed her. It wasn't until being friends for almost a year that I found out how she truly was and the things that she did to me. 

She used my pictures to start a relationship between me and some guy. She broke in to my house because I didn't go to school that day and had me call the police and carried this whole story about how "someone else" broke in to my house and she just came in afterwards. She ended an actual relationship that I was in with her lies. She made up so many different stories not only with me but some of my other friends that all came out. It was extremely shocking at first but then I came to terms with it. This moral of the story being, "What goes through the dark, always comes to the light". I can promise you this is one of the most truthful statements that I have ever heard.

There is no point in living your life behind a bunch of lies. They will eventually all come out, whether that be in a week, a month, or a year. There is always a reason behind lying though, whether it be insecurities, boredom, anger, hurt, etc. If you are someone who is a liar then you really need to address your underlying issues. If you don't then you won't be able to move forward in life. If you are someone who is dealing with a liar I highly encourage you to remove yourself from them as soon as possible. A liar will just bring negative energy into your life and tons of unnecessary drama. Don't think of it as being mean or abandoning them, think of it as taking care of yourself first.
