Another case of "you never know what's going on inside a house." This 1957 ranch style home in Lakewood, CO has 4bds, 2.5ba, 2,494 sq ft. It started out at $895k and during the course of 204 days on the market, was reduced to $850k. When it didn't sell, the owners just let the listing contract run out. In all that time, the listing received only 5 "Favorites" and 3 shares. Maybe we can determine what is turning buyers off.
Entering the front door directly into the living room, the first thing we see is that the owners did some DIY decorating. Wow, that's a big framed ceiling medallion without a chandelier. Then, we have some wallpaper, black trim, and blue tile.
Across the way there's a dining area with a tract of lighting on the ceiling that appears to be connected to a black power box. On the accent wall there's gold tile.
I'm confused by all the random ceiling medallions.
In the kitchen, the formerly dated oak cabinetry was treated to, not only a gray paint job, new knobs, and counters, but they also embellished the upper doors with decorative wood appliques. The walls are covered in tile and there's another ceiling medallion w/o a light fixture.
Tract lighting illuminates the focal point of the room, a mirror-mosaic skinny steer head. Plus, more medallions and some metal ribbon molding.
In the hall there's wood, tile, wallpaper, and medallions.
The bath was nicely remodeled.
This home is a sensory experience of texture. In this room there are 2 different tiles plus wallpaper.
The primary bedroom also has the tiles and wallpaper, plus a dinky little fan and another steer head.
Even this smaller bedroom features tile and wallpaper plus a hypnotic clock and a very modern light fixture.
Bath #2 is a very nice shower room remodel.
Stairs leading down to the finished basement.
In the basement we find many different textures. This looks like a den.
And, then there's a bar with a rec room area. (Note the ceiling medallion.)
Nice place to entertain.
This must be some sort of plastic stick-on wall. It would look great in a mid-century modern setting. Quite a large spare room that's either an extra bedroom or a guest space.
Also down here, there's a guest powder room.
In the back of the house there's a large covered patio.
A yard, garden, and a cute little shed on an 8,930 Sq Ft Lot.
This unpretentious 2010 home in Beaumont, CA starts of normally, and then goes completely off the rails. 4bds, 3ba, 3,027 sq ft, $589,999 + $155mo. HOA fee.
Living room w/fireplace.
Standard kitchen.
Cute child's room.
Then, check out this feature wall. Don't forget that that it's built-in so if you like it, it comes with the house. That TV is awfully high, I guess you can see it in the mezzanine, too.
They are not using the living room as a living room. Perhaps the stripper pole has something to do w/the placement of the furniture.
I kinda like the branches
The stairs have wallpaper. It's not a bad pattern.
Decorative stair wall.
So, this is another 3D wall that the new owner should like, b/c it would hard to pry off and repair.
This is quite amazing. There's a hot tub in here.
Incredible room. The buyer will all the neon lighting and cool built-in stuff. What do you think? I'd buy it- it's different.
Kind of a rocky terrain out here, but there's a large patio. 0.32 acre lot
Detroit, MI is slowly coming back and you can find a very inexpensive home in a great neighborhood like this for under $200K. This is a little 1948 Tudor with 3bds, 3ba, and is only $140K. But, what is going on with the decor? Let's go inside.
We begin with the fireplace decor. I have never seen anything like this, nor would I even think of such a configuration. Flanking the fireplace are tables made from vintage trundle sewing machine bases.
Have you ever seen such wall hangings? It appears that there's delicate black see-thru art placed over other art.
I'm fascinated. Is there a meaning to it?
The same theme carries over to the window. There's even a sort of fencing.
This would be the dining room.
If the new owner does not like the kitchen cabinet art, I wonder if it's removeable.
The pink & blue bath has some decals on the tile, and it looks like original 1948 tile. Look at all the fringe. Where do you get stuff like that?
There are more fringy curtains in the bedroom, and even the bedspread has it.
Perhaps the original owner was a flapper or a Go-Go Girl.
The stair and landing walls are decorated with various wallpaper squares.
This room looks like a den. I don't see a TV, unless it's hidden in the art.
The wallpaper collage continues in the upstairs bath, but there's some cool burgundy original tile.
Someone was very busy pasting wallpaper squares. You can actually go to a store that sells wallpaper and ask for the discontinued sample books, or even buy them on eBay. I used to use them for crafts as a children's librarian.
This small room has nice knotty pine paneling.
Looks like the basement is finished.
There's a laundry area in the back.
It's a large basement with several rooms.
And, this is a large half bath.
There's a sun room on the back of the house, plus a beautiful lawn and garage.
So, here’s a normal looking home in Colorado Springs, Colorado priced at $450K. But, as we’ve learned, you can’t judge a book by its cover.
What is going on here?
I hope they’re taking all this with them.
They can’t possibly eat in here.
This kitchen is making me nervous.
I don’t even know what room I’m in. This seems to be the 2nd fl. landing. Nice mannequins.
This must be the main bd. There are 4 bds.
The bath would be cute if there wasn’t all that stuff on the sink. Odd that the soap is just sitting there w/o a holder. There are 4 baths, but they only show this one.
A 2nd bd.
The back deck is nice and amazingly not cluttered.
Little 1901 sturdy brick house in St. Louis, Missouri takes patriotism and decor to a whole 'nother level. It has 3bd 2ba and asks $249,600. I do like the red door.
As soon as you enter the home, you see that there's some blue paint wall accents, and there's an office setup in the corner. This house is bursting at the seams.
I'm gonna say that the little Xmas trees stay out all year. I'm distracted, I can't seem to focus on the house. The living room looks like a good size and there's a nice wood burning stove.
I get the impression that there are military family members that are into patriotic decor, but then someone also put up a woodland piece on the ceiling. There's a lot going on.
It looks like they staged the dining room table, which really wasn't necessary. I can hardly see the dining room.
A small guest powder room. Good to have, especially if you entertain.
I didn't think that this was the main bd, but then I saw the King & Queen pillows. So, this is the main bd. It must be big, b/c there's a lot of stuff in here.
Here's a full bath.
This house is cute and it's not very small, but it may look like it is, b/c the current owners are clearly running out of space. What do you think the lighter gray squares on the ceilings are for? Decorative interest?
This is cute, a little side porch.
This 1324 square feet Single Family home has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. It is located at 2848 Texas Ave, Saint Louis, MO.
Heidi and her husband bought the house next door to their farmhouse sight-unseen and took their first look- 3 floors and a detached garage all with the same "motif," in Marseilles, Illinois.
Here’s her husband - wish we could see his face. Their contractor is having a special meeting with the Sherwin Williams rep about how to cover the "decorating" as it is more than "just paint" - some walls that are entirely black.
She welcomes us to her home decorated by Beetlejuice.
You know, I think it’s kind of cute. I would leave it, b/c it’s unique.
It looks like the pink parts of the wall are stick-ons, though. I like the gray plumbing fixtures in here. You don’t see that every day.
