W drodze powrotnej z Tasman Peninsula do Launceston wstąpiliśmy do Tasmanian Devil Unzoo. Nie mogę przecież wyjechać z Tasmanii nie zobaczywszy uprzednio tasmańskiego diabła!

Nie jest to zwykłe zoo, gdzie zwierzęta są trzymane w klatkach i mają mały teren wybiegowy. Unzoo to teren o powierzchni około 25 akrów, na którym chroni się diabły tasmańskie. Diabły chorują od jakiegoś czasu na raka szczęk i giną w zastraszającym tempie. Smutne, ale prawdziwe jest to, że wirus wywołujący owego raka, zginie wraz z ostatnim zainfekowanym diabłem. 

Po wejściu na teren rezerwatu trafiliśmy akurat na godzinę karmienia diabłów. Ich obiad składał się z mięsa pademelona - mniejszego kuzyna kangura. Niestety nie mogliśmy sami nakarmić diabłów, chyba, że mielibyśmy na zbyciu jedną rękę. Szczęki diabłów są tak silne, że mogą zmiażdżyć kości zwierzęcia rozmiarów kozy.

Same diabły nie są duże. Osiągają długość około 60 cm wraz z ogonem. Nie dziwię się jednak, że zostały nazwane “diabłami”. Dźwięk, który wydają przyprawiłby mnie o zawał serca, jeśli usłyszałabym go w nocy pośrodku buszu.

Oprócz diabłów w unzoo można spotkać również wiele gatunków ptaków, swoistą odmianę gęsi (Cape Barren Goose), kolczatki oraz kangury i pademelony. Kangury to niesamowicie wyluzowane typy. Kiedy przyszliśmy na czas karmienia kangurów, zastaliśmy je leżące na trawie w cieniu drzew. Jeden kangur szczególnie przypadł nam do gustu. Zrobił sobie z nami mnóstwo selfie i otrzymał od nas imię Charlie!

Unzoo

The initial plan was to get to Port Arthur right after visiting the fossils. We passed by the zoo and it caught our attention. So we thought maybe we just pop in and see what they have. 

I wasn’t keen to visit the zoo at first cause I was disappointed the last time I visited the animals in Sydney and I didn’t manage to catch their shows nor did I get to play/touch them. Practically, all of them was sleeping. So, as we were waiting at the queue, Dom and I was contemplating if we should choose the zoo or Port Arthur cause we can’t be going to two places at one time as it’s late. He asked me to choose and I can’t decide. Until I overheard the lady at the counter explaining to the customer in front of us saying that we’re just in time to feed the kangaroos. Wait. What?! Feed the kangaroos??! Immediately I said, “Dom, I choose zoo! Let’s go!” hahahaha

You do not know how happy I was that day.

They’re so soft and fluffy! Surprisingly, they don’t smell that bad! And I wish i could hug them! <3

Butt butt.

I even get to feed the wallabies! I was told they’re really shy. But I think they like me! Sadly, I don’t get to give this cutie a pat. 

Weird looking goose?

Right after feeding the kangaroos, we went to visit the devils. Tasmanian Devils. 

Isn’t it cute? haha.. I was told all they do is eat, sleep and have sex. Not kidding. 

Next up, bird show. Had to do it indoor cause it was raining. And I was shivering cold! 

This lady did a few tricks. Nah, wasn’t impress. haha.. 

This pretty bird can’t fly anymore. So it’s a good chance to take picture. haha

After all the touring and feeding, we didn’t take a walk round the park much as it was still raining and we didn’t want to get drenched.

It was an unplanned trip to the unzoo. And I have no regrets!

On the way back, we stop by to get some oysters! Yums!

First thing we did right after we reach home was to eat them! Look who’s enjoying it? haha
