Now that it's a new day and the hype finally died down, it's time for me to give you my second thoughts and opinions about Super Mario Galaxy Movie, because I have more to say. Consider this as an updated version of my previous post with much clearer thoughts. Some of my opinions have changed after processing everything. Spoilers ahead.
I didn't expect for them to stick with the game lore. I thought that was clear from the first movie and the trailers. Though, I will say that the first movie feels more accurate to majority of the Mario games while Galaxy Movie is more of a "let's see how many references and crossovers we can add with short about of time."
Don't get me wrong, I still love the movie. If it was at least 30 minutes longer with some of the scenes slowed down, then that would be fine. In theory, that would help for us, the audience, to appreciate the work that's been put into the movie, and give better character development in general.
As I said earlier, I didn't have any expectations for them to stick with the game lore. In case it wasn't obvious, I'm a FNAF fan, so I'm used to different types of media lores to be different. It's still Super Mario, just told with a different story. Whether that's a good approach or not, I still haven't decided. Though, I won't be sitting here complaining about the inaccuracy of the original lore.
Personally, I think they'd be better off using the same lore for Rosalina from the game. It'd make the most sense not just for the movie, but for us Super Mario Galaxy fans, too. I get they're trying something different. It's an interesting concept. Maybe it'd make more sense for the movie lore when the next movie comes out. Maybe it won't.
I thought it was clear from the trailers for us not to expect it to be anything like the games. The movie is its own story. I can't tell if I like the concept or not. I have a bit of a mixed feelings with Rosalina and Peach being sisters (As far as I know, they're not related in the games??). My biggest question is why did Nintendo decide to take this approach? What led them to make this decision? What were they planning on doing with this lore they made up for the movie? I'm sure all of you have the same questions as I do. I hope we'll get some answers soon.
I have nothing else to add for Bowser and Junior. I adored them and loved Bowser's puppet shows. I feel like them, the Mario Bros, and Yoshi carried the movie. Love how Mario joined in with Peach in "not" letting out frustration.
If you recall, I previous gave this movie a 9/10 rating. After considering and letting it simmer for a while, I decided that's not my true rating anymore. My new rating will be a 8/10. Still pretty good. Wish it was handled better like the first movie. But I'll take what I can get.
