Lever Street, Manchester.
Uppermill, Saddleworth 2014
At the End of the Street. Opposite the end of this street is the @theweaversfactory on New St. This is another image from our wander around Uppermill yesterday but this time in glorious technicolour! Love how the double yellow lines lead up to the orange door opposite. Incidental but visually pleasing (sorry, I’m a bit of a nerd). #xe1 #fujixe1 #fujixe1photography #fujifilmxf35mmf2 #uppermill #streetphotography #yorkshirephotographer https://www.instagram.com/p/CgHnK1woxmK/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Uppermill, Saddleworth - Greater Manchester. Home to farncy clothes boutiques, adorable old mill converted cottages and probably the friendliest locals you could ever meet (yes, I live close by).
Also home to: -drumroll please-
WEAVER & WILDE COFFEEHOUSE
I’ve been to a few cafes around Uppermill and surrounding areas but never stumbled into this place before. Walking into (and nearly losing my knees to) a stable door it was cosy, strikingly independent and welcoming. [Which I'm totally not mad about because who the hell doesn't like a stable door?!]
Lots of cool prints from local artists and designers and a clear eye for good interior design; I was actually really impressed with the layout. This place was clearly a converted house or cottage because it boasted a gorgeous log burner which gave the whole place a homely feel. I was instantly welcomed by the friendly staff and best of all... DOGS. Lots and lots of gorgeous puppers that were welcomed like any customers, which for me, is a winner.
Menu of all-day breakfasts and homemade pastries obviously got me interested because, lets face it, food is everything. Took a seat on the upstairs (sort of) mezzanine and scanned through food options and coffee options available. I really liked that the menu had lots of local food and ingredients, that were also available to buy from their ‘Pantry’. You can see their produce suppliers and partners HERE.
So, the coffee. Predictably I got a flat white and being highly disappointed at the last independent coffee house one that I got in Leeds (not mentioning any places just yet), I was waiting to be highly annoyed and ratty inside my head about another burnt roast that I could have easily got from a mass produced corporate coffee company - again, no names. BUT, this was delicious! Their roast is Dark Woods Coffee, another fairly local and very tasty brew. The flat white had strong flavour, was perfect temperature and just the right size:
Oh by the way, that’s Dennis - a cheeky cockapoo puppy who pretty much kept me entertained while I was there, as he was trying to steal his owners sausages off their plate!
Another great aspect about this place was that they openly advertised was that they were also involved in The Chatty Cafe Scheme. A brilliant foundation that was created to help stop loneliness and help complete strangers interact over a brew and have a ‘natter’. Maybe I’ve looked past this in different cafes or coffee places before, as I’ve never seen this before, but they now have over 900 active business’ that dedicate a table for the soul purpose of helping to tackle social isolation, loneliness and help contribute - in whichever way is needed for the person- to being open about mental health issues.
All in all, highly would recommend if you are around the area! The village itself is an attraction to walkers or hikers and due to the good local connections to Manchester and Leeds, for me it would be definitely a good drop-in.
-Disclaimer - I am in no way a professional in either coffee or food, I’m merely just voice my own opinions in this blog to my own personal preferences and to get local places heard of...thats it!
So if you feel highly driven and inspired, stay tuned as I’ll be doing more posts like this (and everything in between).
Ta-raa!
