It probably goes without saying at this point, but Uproar will be closing its doors. As difficult as this was, we ultimately decided on this over the past few days when we realized that the group just wasn’t viable, and this was an inevitable outcome anyhow.
Every time that I open this group, I have so much fun running it, despite the exhaustion that always comes along with it. I wish that I could say that this time was no different, but there was a significant difference in the reception of this group between this run and all three of its predecessors. Despite a relatively poor drop:acceptance ratio to start with, we had a fairly positive outlook and believed that we could recover, but quickly became discouraged when we saw that a significant number of members were simply not plotting with or branching out to others. Our biggest mistake was letting it break our spirit and failing to squash that mentality, but honestly there’s little incentive in modding a group where none of the members will talk to each other and repetitively ignore Mod Cher and I’s characters. We can only do so much, and some might be quick to criticize the gossip blog’s lack of activity, but one can ascertain that in a group used mostly to house people’s ships (and that’s exactly what this was reduced to), there isn’t much to update the gossip blog with. Had people cultivated interesting plots with those beyond their ship partner, then maybe, but we didn’t have anything to write about with the group’s current state.
The two of us work full time jobs that make us feel as though we’re out of the house more than in, and right now we just don’t have the time to pay full attention to this group. Over the years I’ve come to realize that modding is a full time job within itself, but before now, I’ve never felt like I had to force people to interact with one another; this community has reduced in size and changed a lot in the last few years, and not necessarily for the better. And to those of you that did your part in branching out and trying to cultivate friendships beyond your ship, we see you and we do appreciate the effort. We’re apologetic that we couldn’t maintain the group as is, but it’s just not feasible. It makes more sense to close that door now so that everyone can move on.
