A.E. Fall Workshop 1: “What Makes A Great Creative Venture?” with Noah Keesecker and Jovan Speller.
Thursday, September 13th, 2019.
On September 13th, 2018, over 40 members from all different areas of the MCAD community joined us in the College Center for our first hour long workshop: What Makes A Great Creative Venture? After packing a plate full of pasta and grabbing a seat, workshop goers were welcomed by Connie Rutledge, one of the coordinators and a faculty in the AE Department. The workshop was Co-led by Noah Keesecker (program director at Springboard for the Arts) and Jovan Speller (Artist, Curator, Consultant, 2016-2017 Jerome Emerging Artist Fellowship). Students, alumni, staff, and faculty from all over different majors of MCAD were able to workshop their very own creative venture ideas. Those who attended and shared their creative venture ideas were able to receive beneficial feedback from professionals and their peers. The initiative of this workshop wasn’t only to educate the MCAD community about what makes a great creative venture. It was the first of many more workshops and opportunities that the Arts Entrepreneurship Department plan to have this year.
“I was surprised by how many non-arts entrepreneurship majors were actually in the crowd. It was very exciting to see how much the MCAD community wants these educational opportunities, even if they aren’t in the A.E. program.” -Cady Belden (Undergraduate, Entrepreneurial Studies Major)
“I was very excited to attend the workshop after my Entrepreneurial Studies friends told me about it. I’m currently undecided on my major, but I think it’s very beneficial for me to be able to expand on my opportunities in a uncommitted way.” -Stephen Risk (Undergraduate, Undecided)
The Greater Initiative: Spring 2018 Creative Ventures Competition.
Here in the Arts Entrepreneurship Department we’ve started our year off by launching our fall 2018 workshops. Hosted every Thursday between the weeks of September 13th until October 4th, the entire MCAD community has been invited to join the hour long workshop sessions. The weekly workshop will be led by a stellar roster of artists, designers, and arts professionals. Each week with a different topic lead by professionals, we hope to educate and assist workshop goers with their creative venture ideas. These workshops are only the appetizers for what is to come in the spring semester from the A.E. Department. In the Spring of 2019, the Arts Entrepreneurship Department will be hosting a creative ventures competition for all undergraduate students of MCAD compete in, along with a one credit course opportunity. This is an opportunity for students to form and present their creative ventures to potential investors. A panel of creative professionals will select the team that pitched the best creative venture and the winning team will be awarded $5000.00 to split amongst each other.
