experiment x UrbanApathy
#1 urban apathy: [observations]
are singaporeans getting too cold/ unfriendly?
are we too focused on technology which makes up disconnected from one another, thus making our lack of interest and enthusiasm worse?
insights:
these images reinforced our hypothesis on which singaporeans are too focused on technology, thus in turn widening the apathy and disinterestedness. many of the subjects we have observed were too busy on their technology to even notice us. there were also instances where people were ignoring their friends/ company and just concentrating on their phones.
we need to disconnect to reconnect.
#2 urban apathy: [experiment: SMILE]
we held up a sign that read “SMILE if you’re reading this sign” to see the reaction of Singaporeans
video coming soon
insights:
a small amount of people actually returned our smile. there were some cases where the person walked right up to the sign, read it and blatantly ignored us. this proves that there are a considerable amount of singaporeans who are truly unfriendly even when given an opportunity to return a small act of kindness such as smiling.
