Urban Dominion - Chapter 5
Turn 6: Mounting Pressure
The room felt thick with heat and tension, lit now only by the radiant core of the Urban Dominion board. Each faction pulse seemed louder, more invasive.
Jayden opened with confidence, red aura crackling around his side of the table. Using Nils’s now-submissive network, he expanded into multiple park zones, converting two districts with ease. His crew took the streets, enjoying the Hounds' support. One was already lounging under the table, panting happily by Jayden's feet.
He grinned, arms stretched behind his head, smirk sharp: "Might just own this damn city by the end of tonight."
Nils, still visibly cheerful, no longer acted independently. When he played, it was with perfect coordination to Jayden’s strategy—placing tokens, guiding hounds, tail wagging behind him. His hood’s red shimmer pulsed whenever Jayden spoke.
Maximus, meanwhile, looked lost in his own golden haze. The crop top gleamed. His thighs spread as he slouched into his chair, head lolled with a dumb smile. His stats were absurd: +++Submissiveness, ++Obsession, —Control. His gold sweatbands shimmered as he giggled at nothing.
"Y'need somethin', boss?" he asked no one in particular.
He turned toward Jayden and then toward Sam, fluttering his lashes like he couldn’t decide which one to please. His fingers toyed with his token aimlessly.
Sam struck next. His fingers steepled as he studied the board, watching Maximus with increasing intent. The prep tokens aligned, glowing sharper white. Cards laid: "Obedience Training," "Role Reinforcement."
He muttered coolly: "He just needs guidance. With proper standards, he’ll perform beautifully."
Jayden chuckled darkly. "You serious, Sammy? He's begging to be a dumb trophy bitch. And he’s mine."
Sam glanced at Maximus, then back at Jayden. "Not yet."
Maximus’s cheeks flushed pink, and he softly echoed: "Not yet, sir..."
Percival, quiet and cold, watched the conflict unfold. He moved only two tokens—nothing flashy. Just enough to slide an "Anticipation Matrix" card into Maximus's zone.
"Predictable," he said. "Telegraphed."
Maximus blinked, his eyes glossy, fingers resting gently on the board—but doing nothing.
Turn 7: Shatterpoint
Sam moved decisively. His board bloomed in light. Preppy aura flared as his cards dropped: "Claim of Custody," "Submission Lock," "Performance Expectation."
Maximus moaned softly as his stat bars jolted. He reached to grab his token, to hand it over—
—but Percival’s trap triggered first.
"Hive Command Override." "Protocol Inversion." "Link Reassign."
Sam froze, eyes wide. His tokens dimmed white, then flickered—blinking into black and gold. His faction card dissolved into a Hive Crest.
Behind him, a low pulse thudded from his Sync Band.
His posture changed subtly. Not immediate, not explosive—but irrevocable. His fingers unclenched. His tie adjusted itself. His stance grew perfectly symmetrical.
The ivory vest melted into a sleeker, reinforced version—gold-piped at the seams. The shirt beneath gained a rubbery gleam. His pants restructured into high-gloss Hive slacks, shoes sharpening into regulation polish. His once-white clothing was now a sharp uniform of rubberized black and gold.
His lips parted as if to protest—but no words came. Only a tiny sigh.
The internal shift was deeper. Sam’s strategic mind buckled under waves of command hierarchy. What had once been ambition turned to purpose. Pride warped to precision. His instincts aligned to external signals.
He stood ramrod straight. The Sync Band glowed steadily. His eyes lost their edge. A tiny smile crept in.
Percival said nothing. Only raised one gloved hand. Sam bowed.
"Unit synchronized," Sam whispered.
From white elegance to black precision, he had become the Hive’s elite drone: Ebony Spire: Executive Drones.
Percival now stood as full authority—clad in a high-gloss black rubber Hive uniform, the polished polo-style collar fastened to his neck, detailed in gold trim and accents. On his left pectoral, the number 001 shone in sharp golden digits. His gloved hand lowered slowly.
Maximus clapped. "Sick light show!"
Jayden stared. "You what?!"
Percival tapped his temple. "You missed it. The takeover already began last round."
Jayden’s grin wavered. He leaned forward, eyes narrowed. His tokens flickered red-gold. "So... it’s a duel now."
Maximus giggled. "Ooh, fight for me~"
Jayden and Percival ignored him. One driven by hunger, the other by method. Between them, Maximus sat glistening and primed, a discarded trophy.
Event: Overclock Surge
"For one round, Hive-affiliated units gain +2 to all Influence checks."
The Hive grew louder.
