Surviving the Journey: More Than a Tourism Student

I'm Catlyn Mae C. Peñaranda, a Tourism student from STI College Ormoc, and my college journey goes beyond learning about destinations and hospitality—it is a story of survival.

College became a battle I never anticipated. While pursuing my Tourism studies, I was also struggling with mental instability that made simply making it through each day feel like an accomplishment. There were times when my thoughts felt heavier than my backpack, when deadlines collided with self-doubt, and when giving up seemed closer than moving forward. Yet, I remained.

Every class I attended and every requirement I completed became an act of courage. I came to realize that strength is not always loud or confident; sometimes, it is showing up despite feeling exhausted, anxious, and uncertain, and still choosing not to quit. Completing each semester was more than academic progress—it was evidence that I survived challenges that tried to break me.

Today, I carry more than an unfinished degree. I carry resilience, determination, and a deeper understanding of myself. I am Catlyn Mae C. Peñaranda, a Tourism student who faced unseen battles and continued moving forward. My journey shows that even when the path is difficult, meaningful destinations are still within reach.
