Yes, you may call them savages.
The protests are slowly dying off, not unlike the people those savages murdered by asphyxiation a week ago. Some people have a problem with that word given its racial connotations, but that's what they are. Look it up.
Their location doesn't make them savages, nor does their religion. What makes them savages is their savagery. Their violent, abhorrent, heartless, and barbaric (aka savage) overreaction to an internet video that forty people knew about.
Again, certainly not every person in Libya, Egypt, Yemen, etc. is a savage, nor is every Muslim, but every single one of those rioters -Yes, the majority of them disgruntled Muslims- is a savage. I read a Mother Jones article referring to them as "violent religious radicals." Isn't that just another way to say savage?
I also read that many of the rioters hadn't even seen the video, just that they knew/heard a video on the internet, made by an American, denigrated Muhammad. But surely that kind of thing existed before. Exists now. Will exist in a week, a month, and a year. So what was the real catalyst? America? America vilified Alan Roberts, went to great lengths to uncover his identify, found him, and questioned him like he was a criminal. What more do they want? (Okay, turns out he was a criminal, but unrelated to Islam.) The real catalyst was their savagery.
Though some Middle East leaders claimed differently, it's not the disrespect of religion they objected to, only the disrespect of Islam. When 'The Master' came out, Scientologists recognized it as a work of fiction and moved on. Say what you want about Scientology, but it's 75 million years ahead of Islam.
I don't live in Egypt, I don't respect their Muslim beliefs, and I don't have to. What I do respect, is their right to believe whatever nonsense they wish. That's what freedom of expression means, and clearly these savages aren't ready for it. Then again, who would expect them to be, as they so devoutly believe what an "epileptic plagiarist" had to say a millennium ago.
There is something fundamentally wrong with these people. Not all Arabs, not all Muslims, no. But these people? Are savages.
