This is my first time asking a question and i know it's been hours but NO ONE CAN TELL ME A BARREL IS NOT A NEAR EQUIVALENT OF A TRASH CAN and UGH I JUST HATE IT WHEN A COCKY TEAM WINS and i cant wrap my head around the idea that some of them are actually "friends" like sure when you're playing go hard at each other but you didn't have to celebrate like that??? who does that when their "friend" is so obviously upset and crying?? and of course usahockey with the absolutely amazing caption on their instagram post i just-- as a foreign student living in canada i feel like i cant ever understand america as a country at this point
okay here is where i stand on the barrel thing. if they say it’s a barrel, it’s a barrel. we’re never going to know the full story on whether it was meant to be a trash can or a barrel, but if the team says it’s a barrel, it is a barrel. personally, i think that they should have been smarter about the media optics of bringing a barrel out, knowing that it could be interpreted as a trash can, but it is what it is. it’s over and done with. it’s a barrel.
however, i do want to talk on the whole cocky team thing cause yeah, you’re right the usa really was cocky about it. all-tourney, they’ve been saying things, and even the night before, HOURS before, they talk like canada is a worse team than them cause they had a weaker prelim group, like they’ve never been challenged before. i get being confident, but there’s a difference between confidence and cocky. and if you ask me, the usa team crossed that line (not like they’ve been anything but cocky ever)
on the celebration thing, i am less angry about it now than i was after the loss. cause really, it’s teenagers celebrating, let them do what they want. and yes, i know these guys are your brothers, guys you’ve grown up with. you want to celebrate and be happy with them. but fact of the matter is, so are the guys on the canadian team. you’ve grown up playing with and against them your entire life, you acted buddy-buddy with them at the draft (to the point where you guys were called the closest draft class in YEARS) and then you see one of your friends crying all over the ice, seeking comfort in his best friend’s arms cause he just can’t handle it, and you celebrate like that (god i hope the usa hockey chant is a motivation for next year’s team so they never have to hear it).
idk, it just rubbed me the wrong way, but it’s teenagers and they celebrate, it’s not deep. i just found it odd that it seemed like they didn’t regard the other team, but i guess it’s not their job to
