The Different Kinds of Beer Mugs
When you think of beer you probably think of all the different types that are brewed around the world. From pale ales, to amber ales, stouts, Irish ale, wheat beer, lager, and various others, there isn’t just one type of beer. What good is beer if there aren’t any mugs to drink it with? Just like beer, there is a variety of mugs to pour the ales and lagers into.
Think about wine. If you’ve ever been wine tasting you’ve maybe noticed how certain glasses are used for certain types of wine. The same stands true for beer. Each kind of mug has its own purpose in the beer world. Below are some of the most commonly used mugs by beer drinkers alike:
Pilsner Glass
The pilsner glasses are best known for their special shape. These beer mugs hold about 10-12oz of beer at a time though they are taller than they are wide. The pilsner glass can be found in plenty of bars though those who get the chance to drink out of them are usually sipping on a pale beer. These mugs are generally reserved for white and wheat beers.

Even though these mugs are meant to hold a specific amount of liquid, it is rare that you will get the full 16oz or 20oz per serving. Tap beer is known for its foam which means about an ounce decrease in the amount of beer you actually drink.
