This is actually from several years ago, and I was going to redraw it, but... nah.
Roy is a junior, and captain of the fencing team, and he has to keep freshman Edward in line if Central High is going to take sectionals this year. They are NOT losing to Briggs again. Not on his watch…
After every bout, you're supposed to take off your mask and shake hands with your opponent? But Edward can’t bring himself to do that with Roy. He sees him all sweaty, his bangs stickin’ to his forehead, and that stupid smirk on his face, and Edward’s stomach starts doin' a gymnastics routine. He tells himself it’s hate. Or maybe the cafeteria food.
Trisha comes to every fencing meet, and she doesn’t understand what the fuck is going on, but she’s always cheering Edward on from the sidelines, and bringing him and the rest of the team snacks. She gives Edward these not-so-subtle nudges, like: “Why don’t you go over there and offer that nice boy a muffin? You could also ask him for some pointers to improve your, uh… stabbing techniques!”
Keep reading for other random tidbits:
-The first time they fence each other, Roy’s like, “Don’t be nervous about hitting me or anything like that. I promise, you won’t hurt me.” Ed’s like, “I know it’s hard to see through the mask, but this is my excited face. This is one of the best days of my entire life.” He’s been wanting to hit Roy since the moment he met him. Ed then proceeds to lose 15-0.
-Roy is straightening his foil in his hands when Edward comes in to practice late, but wearing a super cute new outfit. Roy accidentally snaps his blade in half from the shock. Breda asks if Roy’s okay, and Roy’s super embarrassed, and he’s like, “No. No, I’m not…”
-During a bout, Roy and Ed bump into each other, get tangled in their wires, and fall on top of each other on the floor. They look deeply into each other’s eyes and go in to kiss each other, but of course their masks get in the way.
-At a competition, Roy is watching from the sidelines and calls a time out to coach Ed during one of his bouts. They talk to each other in whispers at the end of the strip, and with a smile, Roy admits, “I don't have any advice for you- I just wanted to kiss you.” And he does.
SO when I get back from vacation I'm going to force myself to sketch like crazy. For an hour a day. For one week. See if I improve any. I sketched these while looking at random references from DA, tumblr and fashion stuff. I don't remember where all I saw them but I know one of them is a vanessa lake ref! If I come across something I like or think is pretty I'm gonna sketch it real fast. That way I can incorporate what I think is beautiful into my personal pieces without having to use any refs.
