The bullshit: this is only true in California.  Some other states have similar laws (check out the table below) but there is no unified law across the country.

Useful Shit #2 - fake hack

If your TOMS stink, I bet you've done some googlez to try to un-stink them.  You've probably seen something about putting them in the freezer to fix that rank ass smell.  Something about how freezing them kills the bacteria.  Let us explain why that's bullshit.

Bacteria do not give a shit about cold.  Not one single shit.  Plenty of labs store bacteria at fucking -80F, which is an actual (not metric, we're in America and we don't use units that make sense) fuckton colder than your freezer is.   As a side note, you wanna kill bacteria?  The only guaranteed way to do that is sustained temperatures of 165F or hotter.  Yeah, not good for shoes.

Useful Shit #1 - real hack

Tired of your TOMS shoes smelling like feet and shame?  Yeah, us too.  If you've got vegan TOMS, the solution's pretty easy.

Put a quarter cup of laundry detergent in those bad boys and let them sit overnight.  

Throw them in the washing machine by themselves the next day.

Let 'em air dry someplace sunny.  

That's it, yo.  Tested and definitely good to go, this will not destroy your shoes.
