I don’t come on here to disrespect you as a person but to challenge you to hear me out. Existence isn’t chance and you can use all THEORIES and biological science and compare all the religions in the world but the only place you will find truth and not an illusion is the Bible. Try and read it, you don’t have to believe it but I dare you to give it a shot. I hate rules and religion and I lived my own way, I read that book and it changed my life. That’s all I know man.
No, you come here to lecture me, with no intention of an honest conversation, as you simply rattle off platitudes about your beliefs, explain nothing about why they’re true or even reasonable, ask no questions and offer no indication of consideration for whether your beliefs are “true”. In fact, you do the exact opposite - insist, without any evidence or reason whatsoever - that they absolutely, emphatically are true.
You literally do disrespect me, because you insist I should change my beliefs to match your own, instructing me how to do so. You insist they should be changed. That is abject disrespect.
Existence isn’t chance. Nobody said it was. We exist because billions of small changes across the universe have added up over time, and continue to this day. We are not an end result. We are not the end of the line. We are a transitional species that is still changing to this day, as is everything else in the universe, that has been for billions of years before us, and will continue to do so for billions of years after we are extinct and nobody anywhere remembers us. Thinking our existence is the ultimate achievement of the universe, the reason for the existence of everything from malaria to eye-eating worms through to red giant stars and quasars being us, is the most monumentally arrogant idea.
“The only place you will find truth and not an illusion is the Codex Regius. Try and read it, you don’t have to believe it but I dare you to give it a shot.”
“The only place you will find truth and not an illusion is the Quran. Try and read it, you don’t have to believe it but I dare you to give it a shot.”
“The only place you will find truth and not an illusion is The Lord of the Rings. Try and read it, you don’t have to believe it but I dare you to give it a shot.”
Just saying these things doesn’t make them real.
By the way, in your previous post, you called it a “relationship”. Now you’re rambling about your sacred book. So, which is it? What kind of “relationship” is prescribed in an ancient book of myths?
The bible is literally just a book. Entirely man-made, entirely curated from letters from anonymous authors, none of whom were present at the events fictionalized in the story, many of them plagiarizing from each other (e.g. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John), inconsistently repeating what they heard from someone else, and plagiarizing from myths that preceded - virgin births, executions, miracles, worldwide floods, human creation, unleashed knowledge, prophets… Proverbs is basically a copy of the contemporary Egyptian wisdom stories.
Is that how we get “truth”?
And why do I seem to know your bible better than you?
Let’s talk about that “truth”, shall we?
The entirety of Exodus 21 is “god” telling us the rules for slavery. Not ending it, as he insisted on an end to worship of the other gods, an end to all the murdering and stealing you Xtians seem to think everyone was conducting prior to the Ten Commandments. No, your “god” provided instructions on how to conduct it properly. Your “god” could have put admonitions against rape and slavery in the Ten Commandments, but felt obliged to make no less than three of them about itself.
Speaking of the Ten Commandments, only two of them are enforced in law. And have been for millennia, well before the bible was written. One of the biggest “gifts” of the bible and your god, and yet they don’t actually mean anything. This illustrates an interesting thing about the “truth” in the bible: any “truth” is just retelling, not revelation. That is, it’s true because we already figured it out, not because your “god” gave us new information.
Here your “god” orders the execution of a random, harmless, unnamed stranger.
Your all-loving “god” likes death and mayhem.
Your “god” thinks rape is property theft.
Biblical-sanctioned filicide.
A woman is sent out to be raped, and when she dies as a result, is hacked to bits and sent out as grotesque mail.
I have read the bible, which is why I know it is the most repugnant collection of grotesque civil rights violations, murderous, irrational acts, and worthless poetry I have ever read. Have you ever read it? Have you ever read it, on your own, without someone else’s apologetics trying to change it to make it seem less horrible than it is?
As an idea of your “god”s desires and wishes, there is no unbiased conclusion except that the god character is a maniacal supervillain. Genocidal, jealous, capricious, irrational, vengeful, proudly wrapping itself in people’s fear, shirking responsibility for a long litany of its own mistakes. Its own book tells us this. And it has never shown up to dispute that depiction, or make amends for its atrocities. If a generous, good god really existed, the version depicted in the bible would constitute cosmic libel, and it would have taken action to eliminate it, replacing appalling, multiply-translated prose from goat-herders with direct, unambiguous, unequivocal communication with humanity. Unless it’s incapable of such. Or unwilling. Or not there.
The bible is just the claim. It is not evidence. There is no material evidence of either the Jesus or “god” characters in the story.
I heard you out. You offered nothing worth any more of my time.
And as you appear to be female, your god says you are to be silent.
I expect you to obey your god’s truth. If you don’t, then I’ll take it as admission you don’t believe a word of what you just said.
