Hello Kindred Spirits!

First of all let me just tell you how nervous I am for doing this project. I never did this before and it’s terrifying, but I’m also excited to see so many fics be inspired by such great songs. I wanna thank all the girls from the Avonlea Group Chat for going with this and helping me with the idea. You all are amazing.

The goal here is to create more shirbert content, no matter what kind, and to share with the fandom. Also, it’s fun so yay!

What’s this Shirbert Song Project?

This project consists of creating Shirbert content based on an artist song. This first one the content are based on Taylor Swift’s songs.

Here’s how it’s going to work: at the end of this post, there’ll be a form for you to fill out to sign up to participate in this project. In the form there’ll be a link to a Google Sheet with a bunch of Taylor Swift’s songs and whether or not they’re available for you to choose to make your content about. You will be asked to choose three, in case someone before you requested your first choice of a song, so you’ll have backup.

Once you fill it out and sign up, I’ll message you letting you know the song you’ll be writing about and on July 4th you’ll post it on AO3/Tumblr using as one of your tags Shirbert Song Project and add it to a collection I’ll be creating later on.

You can do whatever you want with your fic: Coffee-Shop au, Canon Compliant, Series based, Book based, Web Series based, anything at all, as long as it fits the theme of your song. Same thing with your art: make a gifset using the song lyrics, draw shirbert based on one of the lyrics or music video of that song, etc. It doesn’t have to be exactly what your song says, but it needs to be based on it.

Ex: Teardrops on my Guitar – Gilbert is a musician and he writes songs about the same girl but he never tells anyone who this girl is, not even his best friend Anne. When she finds a music sheet on his floor with her name on it, Anne must sort out her feelings for Gilbert.

What are the rules?

For writers

The fics must be posted on AO3. You can post it on tumblr as well, but it needs to be on AO3 too so it can go in the project’s collection.

All of the fics must be done by July 1st and be posted on July 4th

If you’re writing a multichapter, you need to have at least the first chapter to post that day.

You need to use the tag Shirbert Song Project 2020 in your AO3 tags.

It needs to be 3K words minimum. Given how long you have to finish this fic, I would love to avoid super short fics.

For artists (Fanart, edits, gif-making, fan-videos, etc that is made by you)
