hey, I know u use photopea for your gifs. I'm wondering if you have any tips on reducing their file size? mine always end up being over tumblr's 10mb limit, and when i reduce the file size before saving they come out grainy. Any tips would be amazing! TIA
It really sucks when gifs are so big, it's the WORST part of gifmaking. There are a few things that will make the file size bigger, I'll try to list them below.
Too many frames – The file size can become large if there are a lot of frames in your gif. If you have a gif that's 540px wide, aim to have around 60 frames. Anything above that and you'll have a biiiiiiig file. For smaller gifs tho, I've used like 100 frames and they work fine. This applies more to full-width gifs.
Noise – Adding noise to a gif can improve the quality a lot, but it makes the gif so much bigger. Aim for 1-2% noise.
Too much sharpness – If you sharpen your gif too much, you'll also get a bigger file. Kinda similar to noise in my opinion. Try to decrease the smart sharpen settings if you can.
If you try to reduce noise and make the gif smoother, that can help too. You'll find it under filter > noise > reduce noise – play around with the settings until it looks a bit smoother and see if that works!
