(SWIPE RIGHT) Friday, Sept. 21st | Anakbayan New York took it to the streets with the @malayamovement Friday night on the 46th anniversary of the declaration of martial law in the Philippines by ex-president and dictator Ferdinand Marcos in 1972. We stood together with allied orgs and individuals in front of the Philippine consulate NYC to say NEVER AGAIN to martial law, to remember the dead and all those who fought against and sacrificed to overthrow the dictatorship, and to denounce tyranny, fascism, and looming dictatorship of current President Rodrigo Duterte. . We the masses refuse to “move on,” as Imee Marcos, daughter of the dictator, so nonchalantly says. We refuse to “move on” as long as she and her mother Imelda still hold elected office in the Philippines despite their family being guilty of crimes against the Filipino people. We refuse to “move on” as Bongbong Marcos Jr. continues to claim to be the rightful vice president and has Duterte’s support to become his successor should he resign, as if the presidency itself is a political gift to give away. We refuse to “move on” as the Philippines has suffered and continues to suffer deep institutional, political, and psychological wounds generation after generation due to the Marcos regime’s plunder and commitment to strengthening the chains of US imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucrat capitalism on the country. The act of remembering is a powerful form of resistance in the face of gross historical revisionism, outright denials of the atrocities of the Marcos dictatorship, and the ongoing martial law in Mindanao imposed by Duterte and a complicit Congress. .
