Congratulations everyone! Great job!
Another day to experience another freshman day - ICSperience 2015! From EXCITE2015 to the much awaited dawn of the Institute of Information and Computing Sciences (IICS), the first #ICSperience had come to give freshmen a good and happy start with their mother organizations, and that is Computer Science Society (CSS) for Computer Science students. The first day of ICSperience 2015 started with an introduction and a prayer led by the officers and team heads of CSS assigned to every CS block. After the prayer, the students passed balls and whoever caught it shall introduce himself to the whole class by stating his name, the high school he came from, and why they chose Computer Science. The names of the executive board members and facts about Computer Science and the organization were recalled in an activity. It was followed by the presentation of AVPs of different organizations. Games such as the jelly bean game, masking tape game, 'bubong, bintana, pinto, bakuran', and many more followed. The CS freshmen had fun with the games that they played with their blockmates and their respective CSS officers. The day 1 of ICSperience 2015 ended with name recalling, announcements, closing remarks and a prayer. The freshmen ICSperience 2015 was held last August 6, 2015 at the Roque Ruaño building. They were also introduced to the different organizations of the IICS, including CSS, Rotaract IICS, TAG, Static Void Crew and Junior Philippine Computer Society.
First wear, first walk, first wave. With the grey and red balloons, the freshmen of B.S. Computer Science (CS) had become official Thomasians as they walked through the legendary Arch of the Centuries in the University of Santo Tomas (UST). They were welcomed as the first batch to be under the latest college developed in UST – the Institute of Information and Computing Sciences (IICS). Sporting the first uniform design of the IICS which is cream in color, has grey and red fabric strips on both arms and from the neck to the heart, CS students arrived at the University early for the event. They waited for their turn to enter the Arch of the Centuries for at least one hour, but it did not caused an issue between the students and the staff for the students had visibly enjoyed their times together. The Computer Science Society (CSS), together with the other student organizations inside the institute, prepared and briefed the students on what to do, gave them their props such as the balloons and signboards. While waiting, the CS students took their time by taking selfies, getting to know other students, and playing with the balloons. Three students from the higher years of different IICS programs came out wearing unicorn onesie, Starlord costume, and swimming suit, which caused more patience and happiness from the freshmen. The freshmen’s energies were not drained out as they had their walk to the arch. When it was their turn to walk under it, they were still many few steps away from the arch, but they were all hyped up and everyone cheered the IICS cheer. The now-official Thomasians were running under the arch, welcoming themselves and their friends to the university. When all the freshmen had entered the Arch of the Centuries and had settled themselves on the chairs placed in the UST grounds, the hosts introduced every course and had the pre – mass programme wherein the very first flag of the Institute of Information and Computing Sciences was raised and waved. That was the first time it was revealed to the students, making it to the history of the University and the institute as the first wave of the first flag of IICS. The Eucharistic Celebration followed the pre-mass programme and the CS students were officially one of the Tomasinos. The campus tour of the freshmen were held in the afternoon, after the mass and before the Thomasian Welcome Walk party where they had more fun for the night.
