#7days till graduation! Over the next 7 days I'll be posting photos showing some of my favourite bits about being a USW student. The first one being all the opportunities I've had as a student. I have been an ambassador and mentor throughout my whole time at USW and over the last couple years I've been able to represent medical Sciences personally at so many events. For my final year I worked as a uni blogger (duh) and it's been incredible! I never imaged enjoying it so much but I will truly miss this role.

Thursday this week, the biology department welcomed students from a couple 6th forms and colleges to give them a taster day! We looked at skulls through evolution, how to interpret ECGs plus so much more!

Such a good day today at the USW open day! My last one as a student ambassador, I’ll really miss working these days but I’m hoping to come back for open day visits as an alumni! Watch this space…

Went to the Gower College higher education event yesterday. Was amazing to see so many young people interested in higher education. Majority of students I spoke to were interested in medicine so fortunately I was able to talk a lot about the area and hopefully give them useful information!

#MedicalMonday

So it's absolutely boiling here in Cardiff (around 30.C) so I thought I'd make my #MedicalMonday post around an illness we can get by having too much time in the sun and heat also known as sunstroke (or heatstroke) Sunstroke is a severe heat illness, defined as hyperthermia as the body can have a temperature greater than 40.6 °C. As apposed to the physiological response we get from a fever, sunstroke is due to external heat causing our temperatures to rise as a result of a lack of thermoregulation. Preventive measures include drinking plenty of cool liquids and avoiding excessive heat and humidity, especially in unventilated spaces, such as parked cars, that can overheat quickly. Treatment requires rapid physical cooling of the body. So be sure to keep yourself and fur babies (ok and human babies) nice and cool. TOP TIP: put some blocks of ice out for your pet to lick at, for cats maybe some ice cubes of milk to help them keep their temperatures down.

Busy busy busy!

So every summer I've had to study for different entry exams or go on courses to strengthen my application for postgraduate medicine. Fortunately, that's all done and I've secured my place (grades permitting) so I'm really trying to do everything I can this summer. Although my boyfriend will be moving over 2 hours away for a graduate job in less than 2 weeks so we're trying to spend whatever time we can together before the long distance stage begins. Tuesday George and I went ice skating (one of my favourite things to do!) then yesterday we spent the day at Thorpe Park. We had an amazing day and got SOAKED on some rides and the rollercoaster sweet incredible, I would totally recommend going!

Adulthood

Super proud of George! Yesterday we went away for his first interview since finishing uni! No matter the result it was his first step into real adulthood and I'm sure he did fab! As for me... I'm relaxing and doing everything I can to avoid work right now to enjoy my summer before I start medical school in August. (Kinda lazy I know but 4 years in uni down and 4 more to go!)
