Thank you for taking the time to answer questions and instigate the impromptu utah party.
Haha no worries! I don’t mind at all :)
I hope I can meetup with you all one day!
I'm not from Utah, but the best burger I've ever had was in Utah. Lol
Utah does have some damn good burgers, I’ll give it that
So I hope I'm not intruding but how did your parents respond to you leaving the church?
I don’t mind at all!
I mean obviously they weren’t too happy about it because of how much they believe that this church is true, and that you can’t make it into heaven if you leave it after joining, but two things happened before they found out about my leaving:
1. My brother also left the church very vocally
2. My sister got a girlfriend
So, I think they were grateful that I didn’t leave as badly as my brother did (not that I blame him, of course) and they’d already had to re-examine a few things when it came to my sister.
I never actually told them I had left, but I stopped talking about my ward and about church, and they eventually stopped asking. I received a very long email from my mom that was actually super nice and understanding. She said that she knew I wasn’t going to church and that she knew I had a lot of issues with the doctrine and the culture and that she would always love me no matter what, but she wanted to know if I’d like to take a specific institute class before I finally decided to leave the church for good.
So, because I love my mom, I agreed and signed up for it.
The class was all about getting into the nitty gritty of the tricky mormon doctrine and discussing the murky past, and I’m sure it would have been an okay (as okay as that can be) class, but I hated the teacher. He said offensive things that I did not like, and ended up telling my parents when I skipped a class, which I was super not okay with and ended up chewing him out over it before never showing up again.
Anyway, they haven’t treated the 4/5 kids of theirs who have left the church any differently, and have given us unconditional love - which is more than a lot of other ex-mormons can say.
I'm the "Eyyy, I'm from Utah too!" anon; don't forget to add fry sauce to that utah list. It's always so awkward when i go out of state and ask for fry sauce and the server has no idea what i mean
SHIT UR RIGHT
I went to a Red Robin’s in Cali once and they gave us fry sauce so I said, “hey can I have some more fry sauce, please?”
and the look he gave me
so confused
and I pointed at the empty sauce cup
“You know, fry sauce?”
“You mean…campfire sauce?”
utah's weather is rly something else smh two days ago i walked my dog at night in shorts and a t shirt and today i wore pants, a shirt, and two sweatshirts and I was STILL cold
Utah’s weather Needs To Chill so I can put away all of my winter clothes
@ all the Utahns rn
It's almost 2 in the morning what are you doing up
Since we're doing a Utah party, can I come? I'm in England right now, but I'll be home in a week.
AH I LOVE ENGLAND!!!That’s so crazy because @whelvenwings is about to fly out from England for a visit in about two weeks! Tbh you should probably stay there. Better than America, currently
