"EVERY STORY HAS A BEGINNING"

Serving approximately 430 Boyle Heights Pre-K through 8th Graders Utah Street Span School, on Gabriel Garcia Marquez St, is facing the same challenges as so many others in finding responsible ways to begin a new school year. While it's uncertain when students will be able to fully appreciate his work LA artist Sergio D. Robleto conducted his usual exhaustive research process and with the help of @weingarteastlaymca and @adventisthealth spent the summer vacation painting this expression of the school's love for its students. After interviews with students, faculty, and community several things were clear. The work needed to represent the school’s more than 70 deaf students, honor the cultural history and diversity of Boyle Heights, and offer a future-looking vision. Robleto interspersed carefully chosen traditional Mexican, Japanese, African, and Jewish patterns and above the entry "Knowledge Is Power" is spelled out in sign language. @sergileto/
