Thinking about Dream Sans and Nightmare Sans rn….. I feel like writing down what I think Dream did once he woke up from his slumber in the statue..
(Warning- LONG.)
I feel like he would’ve been stuck in that moment where he froze- like if you paused a video. So once he got out of the statue he went to do what he was before being petrified- only for everything to be already… destroyed. Gone, mauled and broken.. I feel like he would cry for a while…. All alone. Then eventually- I think he would try and find Nightmare. Still being in that childish state of mind that he just needs to find Nightmare, make him apologize and everything will be good!
And so he searched his AU- eventually he felt a tug from somewhere in the multiverse with positivity and was like “Ooooh, what’s this-“ and investigated because it was interesting! He kind of messed around with his magic- eventually, he randomly guessed the right way to open his portal after flopping around- and voila! He was somewhere else.
I bet he would be confused about that.. where WAS he? Is this okay-? Would nightmare be here possibly? I feel like he’d search the AU, people watch and try to stay undercover- but no matter how best he tries, it fails because, well- Dream has the mentality that if he closes his eyes, you can’t see him either.
I think whoever would find him, Dream would just run away from them because he was on a search for his brother… and it would happen over and over again, he was determined to find his own brother! He needed to- they had unfinished business after all.
Okay so time skip to a few years later, he’s more mentally developed and some monsters who caught him sneaking around their AU managed to actually hold him down for more than 5 minutes and taught him a couple things. Also realizing that when they’re near him, they feel more happy…. And so they wanted Dream to stay- for their own little selfish desire and also because they genuinely cared. But eventually…. Dream grew out of it, and escaped.
Now, wielding new knowledge and being better off… he tries to find Nightmare again, this time he also takes time to see what’s happening with these feelings of positivity from random places.. and eventually stumbles into an AU where the monsters are self aware of the fact that they’re not the only world out here, and Dream asks them loads of questions- and gets answers he needs. Now that he wielded more knowledge, he tries to go set foot on his original idea to confront his brother but- the monsters in that AU stop him, asking him if he’s sure that he wants to see Nightmare.
I bet at first he would be confused why it’s NightMARE and not just- Night. His memory is a bit fuzzy about what happened but he could remember that Night was there- he doesn’t tell anything about that to the monsters though and just confirms that yes, he is very sure of doing this and goes away.
Eventually he finds Ink in a random AU he’s in, and since he’s heard that Ink is a really good skeleton to have on your side- he tries to befriend Ink and get him to join the made up team on the spot- it was childish of him yea but Ink agreed! And now Dream had access to the whole multiverse from ONE SINGLE pocket dimension! And so on he went, searching for Nightmare the best he could, while still under the impression Nightmare is still Night- his brother.
Eventually down the line he finds Swap in his AU and upon seeing his strength and whimsy, caring for others and being there for them- he decides to try and recruit him aswell, he felt like Swap would be a great team-player and would help in many fights for positivity.
And then it started- the attacks on positive AUs and innocent monsters/humans. He felt it strike his very core. An URGENT call. A summoning- one moment he was in doodlesphere and the second- he’s in the AU that needs help. He calls up Ink and Swap to come help, he then searches in the AU to see where the fuck is happening what he was called for- and then he sees it. Killer walking around with a knife being followed by Dust and Horror while a goopy thing leads them… the goop was talking to someone?
He decided to step up after a moment and discover what was happening only for Killer to pin him down to the floor and….. then Killers eyes open with shock and amusement.. “Hey boss! Ain’t this the rat you hate?” And Nightmare creeps closer, looking down at Dream. His eye widening with fury and complete hatred- Dream winces because he wasn’t used to that strong of negativity being near him. And Nightmare? He then straightens and starts circling Killer & Dream like a vulture.
“So you’ve been searching for me, I hear? Here you have me…. Vermin, say what you want and be-gone from my sight.” Nightmare would harshly bark at Dream, and Dream would just. Be that meme of a woman having math passing by her head as she looks confused. This is NOT Night……. Was this the NightMARE everyone was talking about?????? Dream would then huff and probably ask where his brother is only for Nightmare to creepily laugh with a smug grin “Awww…. You don’t know what happened? Oh my, what a horrible sibling you are… it’s a good thing I saved him from this terrible fate… he’s dead. Now get LOST.” I don’t feel like Nightmare would explain anything to him, he would just lay it flat, stunning Dream.. and then Ink and Swap arrive, they all kick the bad guys asses and then both parties go their seperate ways, the stars help fix the AU and the bad guys retreat to plan for a different take-over plan of an AU.
Dream would then definitely pester Ink about what that was about- Ink would kind of refuse to tell him because- it’s not how his story is supposed to go. He’s supposed to figure it out on his own- or from anyone other than Ink, because Ink would shatter the story with his explanation to everything Dream was asking about. And so then Dream asks Swap, and Swap tells him the story he knows of Dreamtale- and Dream just stares at him, a bit baffled. He was being portrayed as a bad brother- in the story? But- he was trying his best?! How can THAT be-
He would spend weeks pondering on all the things and reflecting…. Eventually coming to a conclusion. This search for Night was futile, he’s gone. And Dream is to blame for it. He would then be fueled to do everything out of the guilt of being the cause for his twins death. Nightmare of course is very glad because when he’s fighting with Dream, he doesn’t have to worry about his negative goop getting scorched away by Dreams positive arrows, he can regain it easily because Dream himself is an aid to Nightmare.
Dream would bury this guilt deep in himself- never talking about it unless he really, REALLY. R E A L L Y. Trusts the other person he’s talking to- and even then he wouldn’t stop feeling guilty even though he received tips and advice- the guilt he feels is a permanent part of him. He would DIE if it meant that Night would forgive him. He would do anything to apologize to Night and it went over well. ANYTHING, in the fucking multiverse.
