How to Bring the Utopian Parallel Back

If you’re familiar with America Chavez then you’re probably aware that she had her backstory retcon in comics. Originally she was from an alternate alien dimension known as the Utopian Parallel created by future Billy Kaplan AKA Wiccan. Now those memories of the Utopian Parallel were revealed to be false and trauma-based. In reality she was an ill human girl that was experimented on along with other girls including her sister, and her moms sacrificed themselves by blowing the facility up.

Personally I have mixed feelings about the retcon. It’s unfortunate that America’s unique backstory that was a celebratory symbol of BIPOC women was traded in for a generic superhero backstory. On the other hand I am super relieved I don’t have to hear those “well she’s not really Puerto Rican” arguments as if anyone would ever tried to argue Clark Kent isn’t a white boy from the Midwest.

I believe the best way to bring the Utopian Parallel back is to create a mixture of both backstories that’ll leave America Chavez being more empowered than ever. What if she got Billy Kaplan’s help and with the mix of her dimension portal opening powers and his magic reality warping powers they created the Utopian Parallel together. It’s through her sheer will and imagination she create her own little pocket dimension the way she always thought solely Billy would be responsible for when in all actuality she was always just as much the demiurge as Billy is if not more. The place could also be a sanctuary for all of the girls that were experimented and trapped on the facility same as her.

From this point forward there’s different ways you can go about it. For instance America could’ve always been the Demiurge and it’s a chicken or the egg situation. Does it make complete sense? No, but it’s comics. Who cares? Maybe it’s ties in to the chamber the mad scientist kept the girls in. Or this can be an entire new separate utopian parallel. This could also paved the way for her sister Catalina’s redemption arc by having her decide to stay in the Utopian Parallel and take care of all the little girls and teach them how to use her powers. What do you think?

TL;DR Use America & Billy’s powers to create the Utopian Parallel together, but it’s America’s willpower and imagination making her the true Demiurge

WAIT! WAIT! WAIT! Does it mean what I think it means? Are they going to connect America Chavez dimension to Kamala Khan’s origin story? o.o Like not necessarily that they are from the same one, but that there are several dimensions out there other than this one and Utopian Parallel, maybe? Also, imagine how cool it is to be a Djinn.

EDIT: I know Djinn’s are perceived as evil. They’re the same as demons in christianity, but to me, those are always just mythological creatures which mortals do not understand. I do not subscribe to dualistic ideas of good and evil, that some creature is always bad by the principle, and I always loved stories which showed the creatures perceived as evil by mortals to be just unapologetically good people while creatures perceived as good being just bad people (like demons being good and angels being bad). So as long as I do understand the connotations and that it is offensive to a Muslim to be a Djinn, I do not believe that being a descendant of something perceived as evil makes you evil yourself. And I think Kamala will show this, that no matter who were your descendants, what you do with the power you got is what matters. That the otherness that people fall into so often and regard something as evil by principle of being other and foreign and usually associated with bad stuff happening is more complicated than just that. Still, they could have chosen a different mythological creature. I do not know how it may impact Muslim community from the representation standpoint. To me as a monster lover, it is just a nice twist to use that creature and tell a different story than usual, but the fact that it is offensive in religious context is undeniable.

AMERICA CHAVEZ KIT: REACTION UPDATED

I have continually edited the America Chavez reaction I wrote as I thought of more future champs implications hinted by her kit and realizing it calls for a lot of tweets about random marvel characters who connect to the Dark Dimension, Negative Zone, or whatever the “Big Bang Dimension” is.

For one thing, I can't find official Marvel disambiguation between Darkforce Dimension and Dark Dimension. It's hard to establish that the one isn't just a subspace within the other. I think it's best not to conflate them. Maybe that's why America Chavez doesn't have a synergy with Mister Negative.
