Aaaah! That is a fabulously neat little meme! Hmm, you were kind enough to answer my ATSIW musings, so how about Until You See the Light?

Huh. Something no one knows about it…

The original version of Until You See the Light was actually set during the quest, and a good part of it was from Bilbo’s POV. It was originally split evenly between Bagginshield/Fílori, and a lot of the Fílori romance was complicated by the idea that Fíli and Ori knew one another all their lives but were only just starting to fall in love, whereas Kíli fancied himself in love with Ori. The whole idea of the romance was going to be based around the complicated relationships between the three younger Dwarves, and Kíli realising that he loved Ori, but was not in love with him, and that even if he was, it wasn’t worth distancing himself from Fíli. The Bagginshield was going to be the main focus though, since the majority of it was going to be from Bilbo’s perspective.

There’s actually a lot of that original fic on my flash drive.

I wa watching sense8 (my first time watching!!) and Sun Bak reminded me of Sori and what Nomi's gf did for her reminded me of Dwalin helping Nori escape from Erebor in Until You See the Light. Sorry if you haven't seen the show please feel free to delete this ask without answering bye!

Sun Bak does look a lot like how I picture Sori, though Sori of course has longer hair and a beard. Doona Bae just has great body language. But personality-wise, she’s more like Mori, in the sense of “a problem is usually solved by me confronting that problem with my fist”. Sori is usually Mori’s back-up.

Ah, Nomi and Amanita are the couple we all aspire to be, and Amanita is the best girlfriend ever. That they evoked any positive comparison to something I wrote is amazing to me, thank you so much!

Well. In the fic, I feel it explains why he's still very much Fíli, but harder than he should have to be at his age. Can you imagine having to kill someone at 15/16 and what that would have done to your mind? He is still the laughing, happy person we love, but this Fíli would never joke about Wargs on the hunt.

Yep. Which is part of the reason why their relationship took so long to develop. Legolas is not terribly off in Elven aging, it's just sort of that they are actually both that touch younger than is appropriate to be romantically involved (in the forever sense) in both their communities. Like, for the "times" The Hobbit/LotR are set in, not terribly wrong, but they are very young.

And dumb.

(I am inclined to think most teenagers are dumb because I was dumb then and so were all my friends and most people I knew. Didn't mean we were wrong, per say, just sort of stupid in our way of going about things)

(So Legolas comes home married at like, barely twenty in Elven reckoning, to a Dwarf who is barely of age to consent and Thranduil is like "I need a drink/I wish your mother was here to kill you" while some of his advisers are like, "well, actually, Your Majesty, this might be a good thing..."

Omg btw I have been dying to know this. Are Dis and Bifur together in UYSTL? Because I really kinda dig it. (I also really loved them together in Star-Crossed)

Yes, in UYSTL they are an item, even if it’s not said. Star-Crossed? Do you mean Starry-Eyed? They are in that fic as well, and in WTTY, as we will see later. I ship Bifur/Dís and Dori/Bifur and have tried to kind of space it out in fics.

Hmm, we never got to see Thorin/Bilbo's first kiss in UYSTL and WTTY' verse, so, my question is if you ever thought about how those went and if you would mind sharing it with us? I love those fics so much and always wonder about some bits. Thanks!

From Until You See The Light: Instead, he feels Ori laugh against him, and his husband pulls away so that he can tug the dust cloth off the bed. Fíli can hardly see the pattern in the dark, but he's sure it's as garish as the rest of the house has been shown to be. That hardly matters when Ori is taking off his shoes and trousers, showing his bare legs in the dark room as he sits on the bed. It's a tall bed, and his feet don't touch the floor.

I kind of had them playing around at first, showing how comfortable they’ve become with one another. It was also to sort of hint that Ori is actually more comfortable with sex than Fíli. Fíli was trying to work out how to get home, and initially balked at the idea of being intimate somewhere that wasn’t their bedroom.

Ficlet

Ficlet for Until You See The Light

"Nori..."

Nori knows what Dwalin needs to hear. He knows he needs to put the blade down, needs to stop twirling it through his fingers. He's scaring Dwalin.

He hates scaring Dwalin, so he hands the knife over, handle to Dwalin. 

Dwalin takes it, and comes to him, kissing his temple. "My love, it will be all right, I swear, whatever it is."

He wants to believe him. He does. "Ori is bearing."

Now Dwalin pulls Nori in close, lets him hide in Dwalin's bulk, lets him feel safe as he begins to cry, not for the first time since he's learned. He cries, and rages against Dwalin's chest, until his throat aches and his chest is tight. He had not cried in front of Ori, too afraid he would cause Ori undue stress, that he would harm this one too. He had done his best then.

With Dwalin though, with Dwalin, he can hold on to him and cry, his heart breaking all over again.
