If only she could see stars along the smoggy skyline. That’s all Amelia wished to see--stars, thousands of them, like she’s seen in movies. But all that lay there was the inky black that faded in with the orangeish shade of the city lights, and the skyline of buildings taller than anyone’s wildest dreams.
“Hey,” she turned to her friend as the two of them lounged about on the fire escape, “Ever wanted to see stars?”
It was a stupid question to ask. And she’d probably get a stupid answer. But it was a moment of epiphany, the kind that knocked the breath out of your lungs and left you dazed and staring up at the sky with stars in your eyes.
“Like...really see ‘em? Off of ‘em?”
