It took months to figure out how bring that rip in time back. Sam was in the world where he and Dean were never born. The world that went to shit between heaven and hell.
The sight of Lucifer made him hesitant to move forward. He killed Castiel, and for all he knew his mom could be dead. “Where is she?” He knew the archangel would use her as leverage. The possibility of her being alive was higher than his fears. He was Lucifer’s vessel before. Sam saw first hand how the devil’s mind worked.
