everytime new recruits start in at scotland yard, lestrade makes it his aim to become friends with them. this involves his attempt at mastering the latest "cool young people things." it also involved that one time he sent "lol" to one of these young recruits after a family member died, thinking it meant, "lots of love." some of his boys have learnt this and enjoy telling him fake acronyms or making up trends, just to see him take them on. holmes or watson usually mention it, and thanks to this have permanently forbade him from using acronyms around them. unfortunately, between time constraints and lestrade's midlife crisis, he still hasn't quite caught on yet.
