Shaun’s thoughts about the glitch working had been skeptical, even though Rebecca reassured him she had even tried to herself and that the sensations were mind blowing (not that Shaun wanted to know what sensations she was looking for, ugh).
It’s not until he feels the warm Italian sun on his skin that he opens his eyes, unveiling a whole new (well, old) era in front of him. It’s a marketplace, and Shaun is shivering as people brush by him in his plain Italian Renaissance clothes — chosen previously as to not attract any attention to himself in the simulation — with hair standing on end as he hears the muttering and shouting of Italian rolling off foreign tongues. Trying to regain his focus, Shaun begins to walk through, feeling the dirt kick up around his feet, the sweat rolling down the nape of his neck. A hat. A hat would be extremely nice. As he walks to the merchants, each one trying to push their own goods — eggs, meat, jewelry — he finds a hat merchant and drops a few coins down on the stall. The man looks up and Shaun offers a friendly smile before plucking one of the widest brimmed hats off the stand.
“Thank you,” and Shaun steps away, settling the hat on his head before looking up at the architecture that surrounds him. He’s thankful that he’s turned on the Animus translator. Even though he’s fluent in Italian, it’s so much to take in all at once, and Shaun doesn’t want to miss a word of it all.
