@badasshybridqueen Jake/Haley continuation.
Hayley listened as they walked, she knew this wasn’t easy. It was difficult on her and she wasn’t even out there everyday like he was. She could only imagine the new trials he faced every day trying to keep things under control while they were so cut off from everyone else.
She nodded - in truth she had figured as much. If they were having any luck someone would have heard something by now. Restrictions would have loosened and yet, it seemed by the day they just kept getting worse. “I’m not surprised,” she admitted honestly glancing over at him. “We’ve had no word here at the hospital either - and the doctor working on things here - he won’t say it but he’s at a loss. And the truth is…I think there’s a lot he’s not telling us.” She told him softly.
"I know this isn’t exactly something that’s pleasant to talk about. But…if you ever need to get things off your chest. I don’t mind listening.” Hayley told him softly. They all needed to unload every once in a while.
Jake knew she was right; it was his job to keep the people calm, and believing there was still hope to be had. Of course, Jake didn’t think all hope was dead, just that it was going to take a lot longer than most people had hoped. “I don’t think he wants to admit it.” Jake agreed.
“I should probably take you up on that,” Jake speaks as he opens the door for her. Organized shelves of MRE’s sat on the shelves inside. While Jake had undergone extensive training to handle the stresses of this job, he hadn’t expected to need to put the skills to use to quickly.
“Are you more of a beef stew kind of girl, or a spaghetti and meatballs?” Jake asks the question lightly. “We’re also definitely going to have to try the ‘astronaut’ ice cream.” He added, picking up a package and flipping it over to look at it.
