The sound of silence is heavy within the four walls of your editing room as you ponder over font choices for your latest project— a banner for an upcoming fest—when a noise startles you out of your focused state.
A notification from the phone that sits at the other corner of the table, forgotten in the midst of the chaos that takes over your mind when you're working. Your brows furrow as you look toward the clock, only to see that it's barely three in the morning which is quite normal for you but late for anyone else to be texting you.
Another ding makes you prop up and reach for your phone, opening it too find messages from your dear friend—Xu Minghao. A smile spreads across your face just looking at the name, heart impossibly fond of the man who you haven't seen in what feels like ages. Clicking on the latest one, you wonder what it is that has him texting you so late when you remember he works the same schedules as you.
"Hi sweetheart, hope I'm not disturbing you."
Such a simple greeting and yet, the nickname makes your heart flutters the same way it did the first time he called you that five years ago. You always chalk it up to just an obvious reaction to an attractive single man as a single woman yourself, telling yourself that a beautiful friendship is all that it was between you two; but it's moments like these that remind you of the treacherous thoughts that plague your mind during the loneliest times.
"You're working, aren't you?"
The second message, again, nothing out of the ordinary but it tells you how well he knows you despite both of you being too busy to have much contact these past few months. You don't understand the way your breath stutters at that knowledge, focus, you remind yourself as you start typing out a response when he beats you to it.
"I see I have your attention now. How are you, sweetheart?"
Your fingers twitch, pausing for a brief second before resuming their pace as you respond to his increasingly flirty annoying tone, already at your wit's end with just three little texts from him.
"Hey hao, I was, in fact, working before your messages disturbed me."
You're not going to give him the satisfaction of knowing you were flustered—though you suspect he already knows— and you know exactly how to push his buttons too. A little harmless flirting is not going to do any harm, right? Right?
His reply comes quick, like he had anticipated what you would say and knowing him? He probably did.
"Good, you were probably overworking yourself without proper rest anyway. At least this way you'll take a break."
He was right, but he had no right lecturing you when he was no better and you tell him so. In the next second, the ringtone you have specifically set for him—the song that was the start of your friendship—echoes through the air trapped in your studio. Surprised since you didn't expect him to call, you answer it after two rings, still confused about the suddenness of the situation.
"Hey."
Your ears prickle at that, the hum of his voice making you shiver as you realise how much you missed talking to him.
"Hi, hao."
You hear him chuckle on the other side, a low sound that has butterflies errupting in your stomach that has you wishing you never picked up the call. You don't know if you can handle the intensity of these feelings you keep trying to bury deep within your mind, refusing to acknowledge them, especially not when you're talking to him after so long.
"I meant it when I said that I didn't want to disturb you."
And just like that, all your worries go out the window because really, you can't help yourself when he's such a kind soul; you'd say he's the real sweetheart between the two of you.
"It's okay, you know I wouldn't have answered if I were actually that busy."
You can picture the soft smile you know he's sporting, making your lips spread into one too.
"Now, why are you actually calling me? Besides the whole checking up on me thing."
You hear him gasp mockingly at your question, as if the accusation has him torn, making you roll your eyes while your grin grows at his dramatics.
"Please, whatever do you mean? Can't a man just call his good friend to talk to her for fun?"
You scoff at that, "It is when said man and his friend are busy and haven't spoken in months. Especially when I know you still have more things to do before you're actually free. So spill."
He sighs fondly, "Can never hide anything from you, can I? Alright, you remember I mentioned wanting to produce an album with one of my friends?"
That piques your attention, "You mean the one with Vernon?"
"Yeah, it's happening and you see, we have the concept decided and we were discussing about how we want the designing done and I-well, I thought of you."
His words have you stunned and he continues, "We've known each other for so long and I know how talented you are. It's actually weird that we haven't worked together before. I just- I think you would be the perfect addition to this because I know you would understand my intentions better than anyone else."
Feeling overwhelmed, you open your mouth to speak but he's not done speaking, "I would love for you to do this with me, with us." You hear Minghao take a deep breath, as if bracing himself for you answer and you soften, you know you're going to say yes.
"Hao, I would love to."
His breath hitches, elated that you accepted the proposition.
Then, to lighten the tone of the conversation that had suddenly become so intense, you jest, "You're stupid if you thought I would have refused."
His response comes immediately, already used to your ways, "Well, excuse me for caring about your schedule." He takes a short pause before saying, "But seriously, I'm glad you said yes, sweetheart."
Silence stretches between you as you understand how important this is to him, "Me too, Hao."
"We're gonna have a lot of fun, I just know it."
You match his excitement, "I can't wait, when are we starting?"
"In two weeks, I'll take you to meet Vernon too so you can get acquainted before we actually start working."
"Okay, I'll see you then. I'll get back to work now."
"Goodnight, sweetheart. See you in two weeks."
"Goodnight, Hao."
As you hang up, work is the last thing on your mind as you head home early instead—after a very long time— giddy in a way that makes you think of nothing but Minghao's words for the rest of the night.
It's Saturday, exactly two weeks since your call with Minghao when he asked you to work with him and Vernon. You're standing in front of the mirror in the middle of your closet, looking at yourself as you question why you're spending so much trying to decide what to wear when you know you'll end up wearing your trusty pair of jeans anyway.
You spot a top from the corner of your eyes—one that you bought on a whim the time you went shopping with Hao but never actually wore. What better timing to wear it than today? You slip into the baby blue top that feels so soft on your skin, paired with light blue jeans, you feel cute without looking like you've put in too much thought(which you certainly did).
You had just put on your shoes when you hear your phone ring, he's here. Minghao said he'd pick you up and take you to Vernon's studio, claiming that the other man was completely fine with letting a stranger into his space. You would doubt his words if you didn't know how meticulous Hao is when it comes to one's personal space. You pick up the phone, telling him you're coming down as you lock you door and head to where his car is parked.
As you climb into the passenger seat, Minghao has his eyes locked on you, unable to look away. It's been so long since he's seen you and now you're here in front of him—his eyes drop down to your clothes—wearing the top he chose for you the one time you agreed to shop with him. He decides he needs to take you out shopping more often if it meant he gets to see you looking so soft and cute.
"Hi sweetheart, you look cute today."
There goes your heart, not even a minute in his presence and he's already driving you insane.
"Hi," you look at him and realise he remembers the top, "loot at you complimenting your own taste in fashion." You narrow your and eyes and scoff, shaking your head.
His eyes widen, as if panicking but you can see his mouth twitch like he's holding in his laughter, "Is that really what you think of me?"
You laugh, and he gives in, laughing along with you. As he drives onto the road, you look at him and ask, "So, tell me more about Vernon. If I'm going to his studio, I should know more than just his name and the fact that he's your friend."
He side eyes you and you relent, "Well, I do know his music and looked him up but I want to know about him from you."
The rest of the ride is spent with him talking about his friendship with Vernon as you listen intently, feeling more excited to meet the rockstar.
You reach Vernon's studio, standing outside the door as you wait for him to let you in after Hao knocked. It's at this moment that you realise you're nervous, it's been a long time since you've worked with artists you don't know and the aspect of meeting someone new has your heart racing more than you expected.
As you're trying to get yourself to calm down, the door bursts open and you see what might be the most handsome man you've ever met in your life(apart from Minghao). His hair is short, Hao mentioned he recently shaved his head for the heck of it but god, does he look divine. The short blonde hair with the dark roots and the undercut? You cannot comprehend anything anymore. His eyes draw you in and you realise you've been staring like an idiot while Minghao was introducing you. Cursing yourself internally, you smile when he greets you, his voice almost sending you into another daydreaming session.
You knew he was handsome and that he had a beautiful voice, but seeing him in person? Hearing his voice in real life? No camera could possibly do him justice. You walk into his studio, reminding yourself that you're going to be working together and you're being very unprofessional right now. One look at his studio has you awestruck, it's everything he embodies, it's so him and you say this with the little knowledge you have from Hao's stories but it's so cozy.
As you look around like an excited child, both the men are watching you with amusement. Minghao has never seen you so excited since the first time you saw his own studio but he loves the sparkle in your eyes in this moment; the way you seem so happy, he wishes he could capture this moment forever. He's very observant so he naturally saw the way you froze, first in nervousness and then in admiration of his friend. He could see Vernon also take you in, the way the younger's eyes widened the slightest bit and the light blush creeping onto his ears. Weirdly, he found both your reactions adorable despite the slight jealousy he felt.
Vernon, on the other hand, was dealing with his own surge of emotions at the sight of you taking in his studio. He's heard Minghao talk about you and he knows his friend is very fond of you; probably even more than just a friend but he cannot stop the way his heart beats faster at the image of you looking so excited just taking in the way he built his studio. You look gorgeous clad in soft baby blue and he feels guilty for feeling this way because it's not fair to Minghao.
He forces himself to look away from you and meets Hao's eyes—the older looking at him knowingly—and he knows his friend saw everything. He should have known he couldn't hide it from Minghao, not when the man knows him like the back of his hand. Vernon clears his throat as he tries to deviate from this topic to the original plan—the album.
The noise brings your attention back to the other two in the room, having forgotten that you were not alone, you feel the embarrassment creep up your neck in streaks of red all across your skin. You see Minghao smirking while Vernon looks just as abashed as you probably do. Tilting your head in confusion at that, you wonder for a brief second before deciding against questioning him.
"I think we should first show you what we have so far and figure out what you see." At his suggestion, Vernon moves to his monitor to play one of the tracks they've been working on.
The air in the room resonates with the beat of the music that start playing as you recognize it to be every bit of EDM you expected from the two artists sitting in front of you. You notice the way they immediately start bobbing their heads proving just how much they enjoy their own creation and it brings a sense of ecstasy in you that you recognise is how you feel when you see someone truly enjoy their work.
Music has always been a huge part of your life, you would go so far as to say you wouldn't be you without it. As the track changes and a different tone of electronic music greets your ears, you welcome the urge to join Minghao and Vernon in bobbing their heads. As you let yourself loose, you feel the rhythm taking over your body, enjoying the songs more than you expected to.
Watching you vibe and enjoy yourself brings huge smiles onto both their faces as they are filled with relief. You are one of the first few to listen to their upcoming album and seeing you so content fills them with pride. The rest of your time is spent on listening to the album and talking about the designing aspect with two people who seem to be very much in line with your own thought process.
It's been three weeks since you first met Vernon during which the first two weeks were mostly you getting acquainted with Vernon and his music, or more accurately, their music. The most recent week was entirely official meetings regarding the requirements and expectations of your work for this album—the graphics for the entire concept based off what you inferred from their ideas.
You were thrilled, to say the least, because you knew this was going to be fun; with their vision for the musical direction of the album being so clear, it was easy to slip into the role you needed to fill. You never thought it was possible for a project to feel this exhilarating. Not only did this bring life back into your work, you also got to explore music a lot more thanks to your two rockstar friends. As it turns out, your taste is very similar to theirs, and fortunately for you, they have been very generous in sharing their favorite artists and playlists with you.
Tonight, you're going to a club for the first time since you graduated college because one of the artists you ended up finding was going to perform. You contemplated asking Minghao and Vernon to join you since you know they do this a lot but decided against the idea when you realised that their official schedules have started. You wanted to experience this on your own once anyway, at least that's what you tell yourself; refusing to think about the real reason—your complicated feelings for both of your friends.
As you step inside, the crowd reminds you why you don't usually go to clubs but you're determined to experience this culture of music; especially since you've never really paid attention to the songs that play at clubs before. You came here for a reason and you were going to hold your ground until the end of the performance to deem it worthwhile.
You weave through the mass to find yourself a comfortable place where you can listen to the DJ without having to smell the sweat from someone's arms. You settle into the space, questioning your entire existence for thinking that doing this alone was a good idea when a voice catches your attention—Minghao. Your head whips around to see not just him but Hansol right beside him, walking onto the floor towards the space near you.
They're both deep in conversation and haven't seen you yet, giving you the time to appreciate how good they look in simple black t-shirts and caps paired with jeans; it's not fair. A thought distracts you from their pretty faces, why and how are they here? If they see you, they're sure to ask questions you're not ready to answer.
Just as you're contemplating running out the door, Minghao's eyes snap to yours as if he could sense you looking at him. You watch as they widen comically—he knows you don't go to clubs—before he makes his way toward you with a newfound determination. Behind him, Hansol has also taken note of you standing there with your mouth agape and follows Hao to reach you.
They stand in front of you as Minghao calls out your name like he can't believe you're actually there, and honestly? Neither can you. As you explain the reason for your presence at a club, you see how proud they both feel for having turned you into one of their people.
"But why did you come alone? You could have asked us."
It's Vernon who asks the very question you dreaded.
"Yes, well, I didn't think you two would be out clubbing while your official schedules have started."
You can tell neither of them truly believe your reasoning but before either can press, a voice echoes throughout the venue from the speakers—the show's starting. You can see the way they choose to let it go, clearly distracted by the music instead.
As the first song starts to play, you feel it, the same energy from the first time you listened to their album coursing through your body making you automatically move in sync with the beat. You can see from the corner of your eyes that they mimic your own movements, the rush so contagious, it has everyone letting loose.
"Sing along, sweetheart."
You hear Hao say, and join him in humming along to the songs you recognise. Time passes with songs so quick you don't even realise how long it has been since you got here. You pause to go get a drink when your throat starts feeling dry but Minghao insists he'll get them for all of you. You watch as he makes his way through the sea of people around you. You turn around to see Hansol watching you.
Blushing under his intense gaze, you open your mouth to speak when he beats you to it. "You look beautiful tonight." Coming from his very pretty very distracting lips, the compliment makes the blush on your cheeks brighter.
"I mean it, you look so happy like this."
You truly do not understand how this man says such things with such ease because you're sure you will combust if he continues.
Hansol, on the other hand, finds you utterly adorable before the guilt settles into the depths of his gut at the thought of Minghao. He knows this friendship between the three of you is becoming increasingly complicated due to his feelings and his actions. He swears he is trying his best to control them, he just doesn't know how much longer he can. So he does the only thing he can think of, divert your attention towards the music instead of him.
Minghao gets back with the drinks to the sight of you smiling so happily as you talk to Hansol and it warms his heart. He loves both you and Hansol and it makes his heart jump in delight at seeing how well you get along. He knows that there is a certain tension between you, and he also knows that this album has brought all of you closer but also made everything confusing. He just doesn't know how to navigate this new dynamic but he likes to think you're all doing well so far. Maybe one day, you'll talk about the unspoken feelings lingering in the air, but for now, he is content with having two of his favorite people here with him.
The night goes on with drinks and music as you dance like you never have before, you don't remember the last time you had so much fun. By the time the artists is done with his part of the show, you're all tipsy and exhausted but the smiles on your faces never fade.
As you walk out of the club, you hail cabs to get home for the night and the liquid courage makes you speak.
"I'm so glad I ran into you both. I don't think I would have liked it half as much otherwise."
Vernon salutes with a chuckle while Minghao smirks, clearly relishing the way you get so honest when you drink.
"You're welcome, next time, just call us, sweetheart."
Giggling because that's what Hao's flirting does to you when you're drunk, you reply, "Oh, I will, so don't you dare bail on me."
He laughs, amused before it turns softer at the sight of your sweet smile, "I would never. Now get home safe and make sure to text me when you reach, okay?"
Nodding, "You too, both of you." You say and wave at both of them before getting into the car. You get home that night with just one thought—you're happy.
It's been ten days since the club night, and you've managed to get most of the work done. Considering how experimental this album was going to be along with the fact that it showcases both the artists' journey towards their personas now, you chose to center the graphics around nostalgic themes that were equally as bold to the user's eyes. From choosing a bright yellow to using CDs, it was a challenging yet rewarding project that brought you so much joy. As you're heading towards the end of this collaboration, you know you're going to miss this—miss working with Minghao and Hansol, miss working on something that actually makes you revel in the results, miss working with musicians that bring the music into your own otherwise monotonous life.
You're wallowing in the sadness of the inevitable and don't hear your door opening. The very people you're thinking about waltz into your studio, Chinese takeout in Minghao's hands while Vernon hangs behind him. The smell of food brings you back into reality and it hits you that they told you they would be visiting you.
"Hi sweetheart."
"Hi darling."
Oh right, Hansol Vernon Chwe has take a liking to call you darling. As if one Xu Minghao with his nickname wasn't enough to ruin you. May the universe have mercy on your sanity because you don't know how to deal with the emotions both of them evoke in you with just a soft call of your name.
Unbeknownst to you, they're both dealing with their own dilemma regarding the nature of this relationship you have. Vernon with his guilt for even feeling anything other than friendship, and Minghao with his concern for how everything will unfold one day. You all just choose to live today by pushing those thoughts aside but you know, it will happen eventually.
Shaking your head, you ask, "So what really brings you both here?"
In the next second, you realise why Vernon is friends with Minghao as he reacts just like Hao, in fact, he's even worse. While Minghao is often sarcastic, Vernon tends to take his reactions up another level in terms of the dramatics; the only thing is you genuinely cannot tell if he is being for real or just doing it to annoy you. Before either of them can open their mouths to say the same thing you hear every time, you speak.
"No, neither of you have it in you to come all the way here when you have packed schedules with your photoshoots coming up soon. Save me the dramatics and give me the food please."
Minghao opens the boxes and passes them to you as he gestures for Vernon to tell you the reason they're here. You see your favorite food and sigh in delight when Vernon slides something toward you—an envelope. Perplexed, you look at him but he only jerks his head telling you to open it. Glancing at Hao, you see he's also patiently waiting for you to do the same.
You carefully unravel the intricately wrapped paper to see a card—an invitation. You read the content and realise it's to their listening party. Your lips part in surprise as your eyes sparkle in excitement, you can't believe it's happening. When you turn your head towards them, you see they're both nervous yet proud; you are too, so very proud of them.
"So… will you come?"
At his question, you look at Hansol like he's crazy for even asking, of course you will, why would you not? What makes him think you wouldn't? You know you don't have to answer because your expression says it all. They laugh, knowing you're going to come.
You spend the next thirty minutes eating together as they fill you in on the details of the party. In eight days, it's really happening, the album is here. You haven't listened to the final versions of the songs yet; you can't wait.
Friday is here, the night of the listening party.
You're standing in front of your mirror again, this time opting for a pair of black jeans and a top more suited for a party. Your makeup is on point today, making you look sultry without being too overpowering that it takes the attention away from your clothes. You feel pretty and your heart is racing at the thought of listening to the album the boys have worked on. You know that tonight is very important to them and it makes you nervous, hoping that it will be perfect because they deserve nothing less.
Arriving at the venue, you take a deep breath before you walk in, browsing through the faces to identify where they are. The moment you spot them, they're turning your way and you see the way their eyes light up with what seems like relief and excitement. You walk towards them and observe how they're busy greeting various people showing up to the event. Inconcealable pride fills your being, knowing that this crowd has gathered here to listen to the music they made.
"Glad you came, sweetheart."
"Glad you made it, darling."
They say in unison, making you roll your eyes because there was nothing that could have stopped you from coming here tonight and they know it too.
"You both look amazing tonight."
At that, Vernon thanks you shyly while Minghao narrows his eyes, "Just tonight?"
Scoffing, you shake your head, as if he doesn't know how fucking pretty he is all the time. He laughs at your reaction before he exchanges a look with Vernon, "You look gorgeous, by the way."
Good lord, these two men are going to be the death of you.
"Why, thank you."
"Stay close, okay? We want you to be around us while we play the songs."
Nodding at Hao's words, you watch as they get up the stage to announce that the party's starting.
As the crowd encloses into the space around you, you keep your eyes on your friends. Fond is not a word that is enough to describe how much you care for them. Despite knowing Vernon for far less time than Minghao, he's quickly become just as important to you.
They're speaking into the mic, introducing the album, the concept and the songs all the while looking for you every few seconds as if to ensure you really were right by their side. That makes your breath hitch, knowing they care for you just as much as you do.
As the music starts, you realise Minghao's the one DJing for the night and you feel yourself freeze because nothing, nothing could have prepared you for that. You know he does it from time to time, you know how much he loves it but for some reason it didn't occur to you that he might do it tonight. Yet, it makes sense, he would obviously want to play his own songs here, he looks so happy too. Both of them do.
You see Hansol beside him, he's wearing a wig—long, dark brown hair— and he's wearing a simple t-shirt, again, but he looks so good it drives you insane. They're enjoying themselves, you can see it on their faces and so is the crowd. You can feel the adrenaline in the air, everyone jumping to the beat of the electronic music echoing off the walls.
Minghao, he looks absolutely ravishing, up there as he holds up the headphones to his ears, in his cap and a simple black t-shirt with the scarf around his neck; you cannot take your eyes off him, them. Happiness looks good on them.
As the night progresses, it's like you are one with the beats that Minghao plays, you don't think you'll ever get tired of this feeling. This genre of music brings out a side of you that you didn't know existed and you're glad that you were introduced to it through this very album.
At one point, Vernon is beside you, encouraging you to bob your head like he is and all the caution in you head about feeling your neck cramp the next day is thrown out the window as you join his madness.
"Come on, darling, sing along." Hearing the same words Hao said to you the night at the club, you smile as you don't hesitate to actually sing along this time.
Soon, Hao joins you both and you feel like you're on clouds thanks to the rush this experience brings you. You cannot stop stressing on how proud you are of them, and how much you treasure the memories you've made thanks to them in the past few weeks.
You had returned to your home, exhausted enough to pass out the moment you hit your bed only to receive a text from them in your group chat(yes, you have one) the next morning that they were the same. Except, you could sleep in since it was the weekend but they were dragged into photoshoots and interviews due to the upcoming release of the album.
Letting them know that you're awake and fine, you choose to do nothing for the day, letting yourself relax. Unfortunately, your mind does not let you. You've been continuously working or spending time with Vernon and Hao that you've been able to push your feelings aside. Now though, sitting at home alone with your thoughts, those emotions take over your entire being as you spiral into what-if's and dive deep into the sadness that makes itself present the moment the guilt settles in.
You don't know what is wrong with you, you were sure you had feelings for Minghao even if you refused to acknowledge because of your precious friendship but ever since Hansol came into your life, you've started questioning everything you thought you knew. The thing that frustrates you is the fact that it's not like you suddenly have feelings for Vernon instead of Minghao, but rather that you like both of them. like. You don't know how to feel about using that word. Is that even the right way to describe this situation? You don't know. You don't know anything anymore.
You have half the mind to blame them for it, because why are they so charming? Why are they calling you sweet nicknames and taking care of you and making you feel special? It's not fair, how is a girl supposed to react to that? You know though, it's not their fault entirely. You are the one feeling this way, and you're the only one who can fix this. You know they know this too, both of them are smart and observant, there's no way they wouldn't be able to see the obvious change in your friendship. Maybe it's time you all talk, you just don't know how to start.
You're just about to make plans over plans about how to start that conversation when you see more texts from them. Turns out, they were shooting with a car today—the theme being rev the engine—and they decided they want to go on a drive after because they have the day off tomorrow. Why did they text you about this? Because these two menaces thought of you and want you to tag along.
Your heart is very happy that they thought of you and that they want you to join them but your mind is still reeling from the aftermath of your earlier thoughts. You know you should say no, that you need to talk and set boundaries to keep this friendship without anyone getting hurt; and yet, it's like all your braincells work against your rational thoughts when it comes to these two. It takes you all but ten seconds to respond with an okay and you tell yourself the opportunity to talk will present itself soon, For now, you just want to indulge in this chaos that is them.
Half an hour later, you're standing in front of the same car they sent you pictures of, as you wait for Minghao and Hansol to tell you where they plan to drive to.
"No idea."
Two words make it out of Vernon's mouth as your jaw drops. "WHAT?"
"We just wanted to drive, sweetheart. Just go where the road takes us and turn back when we feel like we've had enough."
You look at Minghao like he just grew two heads because there's no way they think this is a good idea but looking at their expressions tells you they absolutely do. You don't share the sentiment but they're quick to convince you.
"Come on, darling, it will be fun. We'll have music and food and just relax."
You don't trust Hansol a single bit right now but relent anyway. Have you mentioned how easily you give in to them? It's a problem that's going to get you in trouble one day; and today might just be that day. The issue? You don't care. The laugh that stumbles out of you at the way they're really trying their best to convince you is enough proof that you will go with them anyway.
As you get into the car, you realise Hansol is the true passenger princess while you sit at the back, with Minghao driving. You're on the highway, when they start playing songs that have you forgetting about everything but them.
Soon enough, the sun is setting and you stop the car to watch it happen. It's silent except for the occasional sound of vehicles passing by. You're busy appreciating the view in front of you and how calm you feel in that moment. The boys, on the other hand, cannot stop looking at you. Let's be honest, they never can. They're always taking you in every chance they get because they love seeing you so full of life with that shine in your eyes.
Minghao is the first to break his gaze away from you to look at Vernon and seeing his friend so genuinely happy fills his heart with an inexplicable emotion. He understands now that the thought of Hansol being in love with you like he is does not make him jealous like it should, instead, his mind welcomes the thought, happy for his friend.
Vernon is riddled with guilt for feeling this way but the moment he meets Hao's gaze, he sees it, the softness that lies there. He realises that Hao does not mind, and for whatever odd reason, he doesn't mind the fact that they both love you either. He just hopes you don't either.
You hear the speaker suddenly start playing one of their new songs—girlsnboys. Ever since you first heard it, you were hooked, it's such a beautiful song, you admire the way it was written. You tell them as much, and watch as they look at each other, coming to a decision together. The air shifts and you hear them whisper your name so softly, it makes your breath hitch.
"Yeah?"
You look back at them, wondering why the atmosphere feels so different all of a sudden while trying not to make their effect on you too obvious. They see it though, the way your spine straightened and the way your voice squeaked just a little bit that could not be heard if they weren't desperately clinging to every word you say. The intensity of their eyes drinking you in lets you know where this conversation was going to go. You knew this day would come, just didn't expect it to be today.
You watch as Minghao moves first, taking your hand in his, "I think you know what we're going to say but let me tell you anyway. I've known you for five years and every day with you feels like I'm on cloud nine. I love talking to you, I love shopping with you, I love listening to you yap about anything and everything, I love bantering with you, I love bobbing our heads to music we both love because it brings me a joy that nothing else does. I love you."
You're frozen with your eyes wide as you're about to start tearing when Hansol moves to take your other hand, looking you in the eyes, "Well, I may not have known you as long as Hao or as well as him but from the very first time I saw you in my studio marveling over the little things, I knew I was done for. You make my days so much happier with just a smile and I don't think I can ever get enough of you, I love you."
The tears are streaming down your face at full speed by now, as they hold you in their arms while you sob because you don't know what you did to deserve such pure love from these two beautiful men.
"Take your time, sweetheart, we're right here."
That only makes you sob harder, overwhelmed. You feel so grateful to have met these two but really, how are you going to tell them you love them both? Would it even make sense to them? You don't want them to think you're playing with them, you would never. Seeing your mind drifting elsewhere, Vernon presses a kiss to the back of your hand, bringing you back to them.
Looking at their reassuring expressions, you take a deep breath, bracing yourself for what you're about to say.
"I cannot thank you enough to have asked me to work with you because the past few weeks will be memories I will cherish forever. Hao, you've been my comfort person since the day you walked into my life and I don't know how to tell you how much I appreciate that, appreciate you. I love hanging out with you, I love it when you get all dramatic because it makes my day; don't let it get to your head though." You hear him murmur, "Too late" as he smiles, waiting for you to continue. "And I'm so glad you introduced me to Vernon."
"Hansol, I was honestly awestruck by your pretty face the first time I saw you but the more time I spent with you, the more I realised that you are such an eccentric person. Gawd, I love being around you, I don't know how I could possibly express the way my heart reacts to your presence. You bring an odd sense of joy into my life that I've never experienced before."
You pause as you inhale deeply and then look at both of them so they know you're being sincere, "I love you. I love you both, so much it hurts and I don't know what to do about it, don't know how to fix it."
Contrary to your expectations, they smile wide and you're wondering if you said what you meant to say, because why do they look happy? Hansol takes you into his arms, embracing you completely while Minghao joins to engulf you both into a tight hug while patting your head.
"I'm so glad, baby."
What? You don't understand, and because they know you so well, Vernon clarifies, "We understand what you mean, darling. We're just very happy you love us like we love you."
Confused, you tilt your head to look up at him, "What does this mean for us then? I just told you I can't choose."
Minghao's smirking again, "Whoever said you had to choose baby? You want us both, you get us both."
WHAT.THE.FUCK.
They see your pupils enlarge and chuckle, "We both knew of each other's feelings for you and it didn't make us feel insecure or jealous but instead, it felt right. We may not love each other like we love you right now, but I think we will one day. Both of us being with you makes more sense to us than making you choose."
You're blinking so rapidly you feel a headache coming as you comprehend what you just heard. "So, like, you're both my boyfriends? Is that what you're saying."
You feel Minghao press a kiss to your lips and you're left stunned while the menace smirks to himself, both of them chuckling at your reaction. "That's exactly what we're saying, sweetheart. You'll just have to get used to it."
In that moment, you feel happier than you have in your entire life, relishing in the fact that you now have not just one, but two loving boyfriends. The world be damned, you love these two and they love you. You then remember how much Minghao has been teasing you and decide it's high time you have your revenge.
He sees the change in your eyes and narrows his own, he barely has any time to process what's happening before you are pulling his head down to meet yours halfway in a kiss so intense it makes his breath hitch and Hansol's hold on you tighten. You bite Hao's lip before soothing the sting with you tongue and pull away. He looks positively frazzled, you don't think you've ever seen him so out of it and it makes you grin. You watch as he realises what you just did and shakes his head, chuckling along with Hansol who certainly enjoyed the scene unfolding in front of him, or more accurately, around him since he was hugging you while Hao was behind him.
You feel Hansol's arm around you, so firm yet gentle, shaking as he laughs, and you cannot resist tilting your head up to kiss him just like you did Hao. Except, you don't bite him. When you pull away, you shake from the intensity in both of their eyes, though you're sure your own are no different.
"You really want to tease us out here baby?" Your breath hitches at the low tone of Minghao's voice, you've never heard him speak like that before. Not one to back down though, you reply, "Why not? Can't handle it, Hao?"
You watch it happen, the way his eyes narrow and his eyes grow a shade darker, he moves until his face is right in front of yours, "Me? You should think of yourself, sweetheart. You really think you can handle both of us? Or do you think just because we're out here that I can't do anything?"
This man is dangerous, you've always known that but looking at him right now, you feel a thrill, you didn't think having him as your partner would entail this. You look at Vernon for an escape but pause at the expression on his face, he looks no different; if anything, seeing him look at you so carnally makes you lose all control.
"Oh yeah, then do it. Do something."
Like that's all the permission they needed, Hao opens the car door as Vernon guides you inside and they're immediately crowding you, looking ready to pounce at any moment. You're thankful for the tinted windows and the fact that it's already dark outside. Even though there's nothing around and barely any vehicles passing by every once in thirty minutes or so, it still feels way too dangerous but you're too far gone for reason by now.
Vernon lays you down on the backseat and leans down to kiss you. He doesn't hold back this time, sliding his hands into yours, opening your mouth with his tongue and deepening the kiss. You're so lost in him that you don't notice Minghao's hand creeping under your top until he's reached right below your chest. You gasp, making Vernon groan against your mouth as Minghao plays with your nipples through the barrier of your bra.
You pull back for air, you breathing heavy as you try to collect yourself to no avail because Minghao's hands show no sign of stopping. It's only when Vernon helps you sit up to help you take off your shirt and bra that he gives you a break, before he chooses to wrap his mouth around the hardened bud instead this time. The whine you let out makes both of them groan, impatient hands grasping at your pants to pull them down too. You lift your hips to help Hansol take them off along with your panties, leaving you bare under them.
Cool air from the AC hits your skin making you shiver and Hansol sucks in a breath at the sight of you pussy; wet and glistening for them.
"Hao, look at this, baby's dripping for us."
Fuck, maybe you shouldn't have provoked them after all.
Hearing that, Minghao unlatches himself from your chest, looking down to see exactly what Hansol said, and he practically growls, making you let out another whine. They clearly love the sounds you make and you can see that they plan on making sure you lose your voice by the end of this.
Unable to help himself, Minghao immediately plops down to taste you. The sudden stimulation makes you twitch, your hips rising before Hansol's hand holds you down. Hao comes back up just as quickly as went down, crawling up to kiss you right after, he's such a tease, you really don't know if you'll survive them.
While he's busy kissing you, Hansol chooses to circle your clit in slow circles, making you whine into Hao's mouth and you feel him smile against your lips. Slowly, Hansol makes his way down to your slit, gathering the wetness on his fingers before entering one into your pussy. The sensation makes you moan, the sound new and loud enough to make them both pause for a second before continuing with a newfound determination to make you moan like that again.
Minghao's hand finds place on your right breast again, you can barely think at this point when you feel something wet on your clit. Vernon wraps his tongue around the bud, suckling as he continues to finger you. You break away from Hao, unable to breathe and he proceeds to kiss down your jaw to your neck, leaving marks in his wake.
It's all too much, you've never felt so much pleasure at once. Hansol replaces his fingers with his tongue as you feel Minghao pepper kisses down your chest and stomach. Not wanting to leave your clit unattended for too long, Hao uses his thumb to rub eight figures as Hansol continues to eat you out like a starved man.
Just as you think they're going to continue this way, you feel a second tongue enter you and you squeal. You cannot believe they're both eating you out together, never in your wildest dreams did you think this would happen. You feel your orgasm coming and they can too. Their hands move to pinch at your nipples and rub your clit and you lose your mind. You scream as you reach your high, all while they continue to lap at your cunt while murmuring praises against you. The vibration just makes you more sensitive as you come down from your high.
They both come up to kiss you as you're still recovering from that. You realise they're helping you back into your clothes and you make a confused sound.
"We're not fucking you for the first time in a car, sweetheart."
"Yeah, and besides, the night is still young darling."
Despite the orgasm you just had, you feel your body tingle at the thought of what's to come and hide your blush behind your hands. They chuckle, so utterly fond of you. Hansol sits behind, with you this time as Hao drives. The music starts again, "Sing along baby" they say and you feel content here with them. You would never trade this for anything in the world, your boyfriends by your side.
