Taking a closer look at @vacheronconstatin’s 2020 Les Collectionneurs collection of restored vintage timepieces. One of my favourite annual launches within the world of haute horlogerie. On my wrist is the famous Triple Calendar reference launched in 1942 which quickly became an emblematic VC signature due to its recognisable gadroons case design and “cow horn” shaped lugs. This particular timepiece was manufactured in 1947 and features a striking 18K gold dial. In my discovery of @vacheronconstantin’s Les Collectionneurs 2020 collection a fascinating timepiece stood out from the rest, a horological design unlike any that I have yet come across; The Jumping Hours Gentleman’s wristwatch or the “Chronoscope”. A result of a Robert Cart patented movement from late 1920’s. The system was adapted to Vacheron Constantin pocket watches and wristwatches like for reference 3189 in the 1930. However, in 1994 @vacheronconstantin relaunched a jumping hour wristwatch, “Heures Sautantes”. And what a treat it was! To honour the 1930’s invention, the dial of the re-editon was carefully decorated with a similar gilloche pattern to the original. Another highlight of the collection is the Jubile in 18k yellow gold from 1936 (seen on on 5th picture). It was created for the 150th anniversary of Vacheron Constatin, which, back then, was believed to have been established in 1785.
